So, what are the faults in the thai education system that led to the rally and it's consequences.

It's great to learn of some top class teaching efforts and of distorted history - these issues are common to just about every country on earth.

Let's get to the nub of the issue....

Trtrz wrote “I seconded that. It is so distorted, it's revolting. I have been through both Thai and British education system and there is a huge difference in studying of history. For Thailand, history is one big nationalism propaganda, meanwhile for UK, it's a lesson where it builds your analytical skills with information given. Students of history in UK are thinkers, students of history in Thailand are followers
.

I am glad that we can agree on this issue trtrz. I think we need to rewrite our history with proper research into it at least 3000 Thai calendar years. It’s not only good for our children but it also good for adult too. I also wonder if anyone has written any history about Thailand for the past 100 years. If they did I would like to know if they have used it to education our children at school. I think that its time for something should happen now and very soon.

I have been through the military training and the stuff they teach, were absolutely ridiculous, they called Indo-China war a war between Thailand and Japan, when in truth, it's Phibun invading Cambodia. This particular distortion of event is the reason, why many Thais fail to understand the situation at Kao Preah Vihear. The truth is Thailand has to compromise its right in that area to disassociated with the Phibun regime that invaded a French colonies and acted against the Allies. The history lesson also ignore the dodgy business going on in the power struggle between phibun and Pridi, during that time.

As for Kao Preah Vihear it was without doubt belong to Thailand. Mistakes were made due to language barriers and inexperience of our legal team in international law. Thailand has to raise money from people & children for expenses to fly out to fight for what rightly our in the first place.

Nevertheless trtrz! I still think that the truth should told & inform to our children without bias opinion in history. It would teach our children about the truth, the mistake, perhaps the unity that we should all have. When Europeans has invaded Southeast Asia what they has in their mind was to take and conquer. We were at disadvantaged due lack of war ships and firepower. They might approach us with smile on their faces but they’re desire was to conquer.

The problem is whether government would sway to produce this works to built a better future for our generation without hiding the truth in story telling.

Country wasn't built by single person it was built by unity of people put together to mak up a country.
It is about time that our country & children should learn about real progress look like if we could hold unity together to makes it happen.

WHERE'S THE BEEF? Hmm HDB my friend, you hit on a very good point, however where there is no education there is also Ignorance too , many of these people up here in Issan believe in fairys, hob goblins and all the other voodoo BS that go's with it, so they are more easily conned into believing anything , especially when Thaksin gives them twice as much as they get for cutting sugar cane or rice for 10 hours a day to wave his red foot clappers and watch and listen to his nightly rhetoric on video to achieve the Impossible dream of "equality" and justice irrespective of their perceived status in life ,of course this go's down well with those who are not in a position to know better , many of whom cannot even read and write in their own lingo , perfect grist to Thaksins mill .

Through century Thai people has always rely on another person’s information as a source of news. If the news has been distorted can you imagine what could have happen. If a person has some education he/she might be able to perhaps make a right choice about information receives. Lies is much easy make than truth so once accusation were made it quite hard to convince another about the truth. So education is very important therefore if we don’t have our own history it would be difficult to direct future generation. So far we don’t have history that could provide our children a true picture.

Hi Natt, what you said above is culture teaching it hasn’t anything to do with school education teaching as we discussing here. Yes our culture has taught us to be respectful that just about it. With respect came suppression which doesn’t allow us free thinking. Having education and free thinking or analytic skill doesn’t mean you disrespect our culture.

Like Natt here his perception of culture teaching is mistake for school education. Without school education you won’t be able to survive in this fast world of thinking.

It's not a Thai educational system if one insists on using Western standards and comparatives, is it....??

Thinking? As if there is an absolute or standard for what proper thought might be?
