Re: Do you speak English Khun Noy?

You sound incredibly naiive. I don't care what all these well-wishers say, you've done an incredible disservice to Thai culture with your inappropriate payments. Anyone who would lower himself to marry a bargirl, in the first place has major self-worth issues. Is it so difficult to find a good Thai girl from a decent family who has enough self-respect not to prostitute herself?
Another point, i didn't mention in my original criticism of you is that the dowry is usually merely symbolic and is often returned to the bride and groom when said bride comes from a decent family, and not one made up of mercenary Isaan gold-diggers.
By the way, how's your wife's English? I bet it doesn't extend much beyond the usual bargirl, LoSo patter. I'm sure it will really serve her well during the interview at the British embassy.

Few bargirls turn around and change, unless some Farang with more money than sense comes along and does what Thaipride has done.
There are basically two types of Farang in Thailand.
The majority are the mooks who marry some boring Isaan hooker, build the big 'baan Farang' in the village, and think their living the good life within 'real Thai culture, while their re-invented wife (usually dripping in gold) lords it over everyone else, and makes all the other hapless village girls dream of the same thing, instead of trying to get an education, working hard and bettering their lives, the honest way. Few of these guys ever learn to speak either Thai or Isaan, or ever really understand the culture in which they are operating.
The vast majority of Thais have nothing but contempt for these type of Farang, who in choosing to follow this well-worn path make it all the more difficult for the second type of Farang, who are making an effort to do it the right way: integrating into the society by learning the language, holding a decent job, working with Thais and above all pursuing normal woman, of roughly equal status, as difficult as that may seem to be. I worked for 13 years in Thailand as a professor at the top universities in the country, and therefore have had ample opportunity to meet intelligent, interesting, sophisticated women, who contribute something to the society and with whom I could easily relate on an equal basis.
When compared to these women, the Isaan bargirls are a stain on the culture. So, making bargirls 'respectable' by marrying them and loading they and their families up with money, makes the bargirl lifestyle attractive to other Isaan women, and untimately damages Thai society. Farang like Thaipride are doing a lot of damage to the country and its culture.
Most of these guy, who happily marry Thai bargirls would never dream of marrying a hooker in their home country. Yet they seem to loose all sense when they get off the plane, head to a bar and fall in love with these girls.

I totally agree with you and the first type doesn't give a good reputation to the whole expat community.I live and work in
Thailand since 9 years and from the beginning, from the day I decided to stay here,I started to learn thai(difficult language
for western ears but not impossible to learn ).My wife is teacher of thai in the gouvernemental schools and at home we speak
together only in thai.I speak french (I am belgian)with my daughter-luuk kreung- and at 2 years old,she understand both languages. My wife appreciate european culture and litterature, french and italian food and when we go on holidays in Europe,
she is not anxious to come quickly back in Thailand-to eat somtam. The first step of a good union is equality:in education,in social level ,in age also and a share interest in the both cultures. That's my piont of view.

He tried to make it clear thats hes an older gentleman with a busines plan, he's no mug, he's making some good scratch from these women.
He also made it clear that he is having a good time.
Whats wrong with what he is doing? It sounds like win win to me. If these girls can get past the British government's new rules (the point of this forum) then they can serve the country the way ThaiPride is intending.
The story earlier mentioned bout the American man that got burnt when taking a bargirl back to the States and then running off sounds a lot worse.
It's such a common story back home in the States about these girls making the old men look bad. And not just Thai girls, Mexican, Russian..... etc etc
At least ThaiPride has a business plan

So, he's a pimp, then. Yes, very admirable.

Hmm...imagine none of this has happened. What if these old farangs never step foot in Thailand & decide to stay. Then what would Isaan be like today? Where would all the young girls end up?...masssage parlors, w---- houses.. may be.

Re: Do you speak English Khun Noy?
My wife is an Isan lady. She's hard working, respectful, kind and considerate. She takes care of me and I her. She didn't finish the 4th level in school and I have a Master's degree from a US college. She goes to night school to improve her English and works full time earning 60,000 baht a month (and pays for to support her family back home) . I earn considerably more (and pay to support her). Money and status aren't everything. Aptitude and ability count for a lot. I would guess your not doing well financially and so rather than improve your own situation ( have have to deal with your own shortcomings), you chose to play the wise all knowing expat who's seen it all. Guess what they don't make those movies anymore.
Not speaking the language should not be a bar to getting a Visa from another country. The people from many part of Isan only have limited contact with foreigners (unless they work in the HiSo controlled brothel industry) and the language teachers are of dubious quality. So where is one to get a passable knowledge of a foreign language at an affordable price?
