Why do so many people think they are right all the time

Hi
This is very true of most of the World and everyone seems to think that their way is best and never ever listen to the other side.
Also there are many many people who simply can not apologise in either their behaviour or with some comments made.
At the moment ofcourse wehave conflicts in North Africa and the on going problems in the Middle East and Afganistan and it makes you wonder whether any of these wars will achieve anything.

There is a song sung amongst other artists, but will name one Elton John and the title " sorry seems to be the hardest part"
How so true in my experiences and I just love the culture and most of the people who I meet in Thailand and other cultures too.
Even when a major argument breaks out people in Family life here in Thailand, everyone thinks they are right and sometimes one has to try and explain, which sometimes makes matters worse.
It is also very very difficult ie sometimes people really do not know why one is angry with them, because of misunderstandings and non understanding of language as well.

What I have observed in this Wonderful Country is that the Ma will always support the Son and Daughter and very rarely, if any will criticise him and after agreeing with husband/ wives and this is not passed on.
So and this is ofcourse the culture and understand this is that the Grandparents are really the Parents who bring up the sons and daughters, while they go out to work.
Nevertheless it seems that the Thais in general take their Grandparents so much for granted and this indeed at times can lead to tension and arguments and sometimes it appears that the many Thai men seem not to spend hardly any time with the children. I know people work very long hours for not much, but any free time you would think like to spend it with Family, but obviously they need to relax with their friends and spend maybe 30 minutes maximum with their children.
This is just an observation with watching people and their Families.

People here seem not to be able to forgive that easily and as in most places the truth hurts and this is on my observation is where the problem lies in that the Ma will not criticise.
Also people have in the past asked me "do you want a "girlfriend" and no and one is enough lol but Thai men and women often have 3 wives/husbands and a few boyfriends/girlfriends, and their partners seem to know, but accept it.

Sorry just a quick follow on and yes so many Sons and Daughters are seperated or divorced and makes Family life even harder another observation that is all.

It's not a matter of being "better" - but neither is culture a catch-all excuse; is not set in stone anywhere in the world and looking at the world or specifically Thailand through rose-tinted spectacles isn't all that helpful to anyone except perhaps your own feeling a well-being.

Many aspects of a country are actually quite capable of being scrutinised logically and world-wide there are whether a culture likes it or not demonstrably universal "truths".
for instance hum,an rights are usually quite scientifically provable to work.
Cruelty to animals,incompetence, corruption, poor quality infrastructure are "The Thai Way" unless the "Thai Way" is that of uncaring, corruption and inequality etc.

To try and use "culture" as a kind of umbrella justification for a nations short-comings is in the long run not helpful to anyone - especially the people of Thailand, many of who are deprives of opportunity and fair representation due to the unsatisfactory systems of hierarchy, government and economics that exist here.

Thanks for reply and was only stating what I see and yes ofcourse the system here and around the World as far as Governments are concerned .
The trouble is yes in general the Governments do not help them, but always ask other people for loans they never intend to pay back.
One can not provide unlimited funds to everyone and who is going to look after these people, when they run out of money. Exactly no one

Why do some people think they’re right all the time is because they don’t know the different between right & wrong before. They may think that they have high confident but these people who believe they right all the time are very self-centred and lack of self-confident to admitting that they could be wrong. They believe that their opinion is better than others. You should let these people get to you. All you have to do is allow them to learn their own mistake. Since we all have pride and as we all see things in the different way from another. We only see the right for us. To admitting another people opinions is to admit that we could be wrong. But by admitting other opinions this means we have an open mind. We can only experience right & wrong only time will tell. In politic politician think they always right is because they wanted to control us. In politic politician never admit guilt or mistake straightaway because it isn’t a good career moves so they prodding on ///// until they get found out. Once we learn how to say sorry then we could move on.

A lot of this boils down to "critical thinking" - this is a learnable skill that most people many people don't even know exists let alone try to acquire.

Many people like to say "you are entitled to your own opinion"
WHY???

An opinion, needs to be backed up by some rational thought or even some evidence.

Unfortunately so many people who post on forums are NOT expressing opinions at all but venting their own PREJUDICES.

These are opinion-like statements but have no serious basis in truth and are usually the result of the person's own observations. This in itself shows how little they understand the processes involved in forming a valid opinion.
the observations of one against several million is of course ridiculous; it brings to mind another frequently used expression

"seeing is believing" - well unfortunately what we see and how we interpret it can be way off the truth.

I think a problem on forums is so often that the average poster is too uneducated or uninformed to form a coherent argument but they don't realise that.
THey should ask themselves if they would put forward the same opinion in a public place (e.g. face to face - real not virtual) - probably not as they would immediately be shouted down by all around them.

You'll see time and time again people have resorted to "Googling" to find "evidence" to support their argument, but as they are far too uncritical in their analysis of evidence and media that conveys it, the threads usually degenerate into gainsaying and insults.

It would be nice if people actually thought about HOW they have come to the "opinion" they plan to make public and does it have any credible background to it.

Unfortunately, in Thailand there is 'face'. Once you have given your opinion it is almost impossible to retract it without losing 'face' even in the face of substancial evidence. If Thais learned to think BEFORE they speak this might change but I won't hold my breath.

To try and use "culture" as a kind of umbrella justification for a nations short-comings is in the long run not helpful to anyone -

...nor is the more common usage of comparatives, more often than not moot as discussions turn to cultural differences.

In my opinion, it depends on the background of each family. Parents, who were educated or cultivated in properly ways could not doing like that. Some, done this. The point of thinking domination is "unacceptable in others" . It's the fact of people, who are a kind of narrow. They don't want to listen to others, even advisers are their children, parents, relatives or any who are willing to suggest them. Thais (uneducated) believe sons are better, in case of offspring. But now in Thailand, women can choose to change surname or not. BTW You can not perceive that all of Thais are thinking right all the time. Many new educated gens are trying to have better environment and stay best in Thailand, Land of Conditions. : )
