I can't believe that the powers that be have the effrontery and the gall to suggest that we should pay a single baht, let alone one thousand to what is purported to be an environmental tax!!!

This country has one of the most disgraceful environmental, ecological and conservation records anywhere in the world - especially with regard to rampant and unregulated development related to tourism. ....and to solemnly sit their and suggest VISITORS pay cash into a scheme that clearly would disappear in a sea of graft and corruption is quite beyond the pale.

It seems that there are groups of people (businessmen??) in Thailand who are hell-bent on screwing every last possible cent out of foreigners - no matter what the excuse.
We had the ATM charge of 150 baht, constant increases in non- immigrant visa fees, extra taxes on condo sales etc etc......you know maybe in the end someone influential outside the country might notice and complain....and Thailand would then be faced with a reputation it so richly deserves.

Arai-wah?? is the most appropriate response for this.

Some years back there was an 'exit tax' collected at the airport and one can't leave before paying.
I guess they want to bring it back under a different pretense.

I think the "airport tax" is still in existence but they have included it in the ticket price, so people don't know it's there!

Do they still impose this in the airport. This environmental tax might be just something they use to increase their fatten up their wallets.
