All over the world men fall in love with women. Most men, US or otherwise, fall in love with women from their local area but when people travel to exotic places and meet exotic people they often fall in love with them. Why do so many Thai women fall in love with farang? Is it because to them the farang is exotic? Despite what some would say most Thai women fall in love with men from their own culture but some like something different. I think this is normal because in animals most will mate with the herd but some will wander off to improve the gene pool.

This is a cotroversial issue.
The Thai woman is more cordial and more obedient but less independent. That fits the farang's machismo. the USA woman looks at the man as equal partner.
Mixed partnerships usually do not last long, do not create normal family ties or futures.

Now this is pure tripe. My Thai wife of 26 years is not obedient and is just as Independent as any woman I know. If a woman is completely independent, why would she get married.
My first wife was the same, we just did not have much in common. We married too young. That is right my first wife, American, did not have as much in common with me as my Thai wife.
There is no stereotype Thai or American wife. Beleive me, Thai wives will take you to the cleaners to.

A Major Problem For Thailand

Postby Ian Beale on Fri Dec 31, 2004 10:51 pm

Most what all of you say above is correct.
however, these problems are compounded by Thailand's silly laws banning foreigners, even if married to a Thai, from owning almost anything.
These laws are a massive incentive for crime in Thailand - including loan-sharking, and Thai families using their women as a lure to fleece farang husbands.
Imagine what an outcry there would currently be in Western countries if we had such laws.
But Thailand needs to watch out. The West is already reacting - eg. massive visa fee increases for Thai wives. The next major recession in the West could well see reply laws - i.e. countries which ban foreigners from owning will have their own nationals banned from owning in the West.

I have been married for 10 years to a Thai women. My first marriage and it has been the best thing that I have ever done. I don't think that her looks were the issue as much as the way she handled herself with business issues and personal issues. Remember the old saying never judge a book by its cover well looks will fade but virtues will stay on and on and on.

I have to agree with Adam, this is tripe. Any guy that gets a Thai bride because he thinks she will be submissive will get burnt. My wife has more spark than most European or American women that I have been out with. The difference is she is not fighting for control because she knows she has her areas of control and I have mine. Anyone that messes with a Thai wife may find out why Thailand is one of the world leaders in micro-surgery. My wife is so far from 'obedient but less independent' that it is a joke. Her business is doing better than I am so she is more independent than my last wife. She got there by a level of hard work and determination that I have never seen before. OK, I paid a few deposits to get her going but she did the work and runs her business herself. She also takes care of the hire and fire in my business (because she speaks Thai so much better than me) so if anything she is more independant than I am.

Hard-working Thai women

Postby Ian Beale on Wed Jan 05, 2005 8:42 pm

He's right - no farang should fool himself into thinking a Thai wife will be submissive. And most Thai women are very hard-working - just look at those street vendors ! Seems to me Thai society imposes responsibility on women at a younger age than it does on its' menfolk.
By the time women enter their thirties,
at the latest, they do n't have much of an option but to work hard - unless during younger years they've masssively cleaned out some stupid farang. But even then, much of their proceeds likely will have gone to males in her family.

It's possile to marry a Thai lady in Thailand and live their for the rest of your life in what we simply call 'the normal' way but the Thai government makes it very difficult to find that way because they want to protect the Thai culture/habits/standards like they want and don't want to become slaves from the US, the US wants to play the world police, only their standards (witch standards, tey doesn't have one) are the only good one and that while American citizens just like most Canadian don't have a square inch land because the stole it from The Red Man! I know the way to live like a Thai citizen without difficulties (before you reach that state you must bend to the Thai laws, but an US citizen bending?! they rather die but at the oil compagnies in the middle East their sits Clinton on the ground like the locals, because he need them, who need Thai, nobody so Thailand is considered as a difficult country, wrong, they protect theirselfs in a good way
