15% flighttax on airfare prices to Thailand

15% flighttax on airfare prices to Thailand

Postby bkkjourney on Mon Dec 27, 2010 4:19 pm

27-12-2010: A new rumour is going on that Thailand is thinking of introducing a 15% flighttax on airfare prices to Thailand. This means that airfare prices might go up about 100 euro per ticket. The International Air Transport Association(IATA) believes this will vastly endanger the tourism of Thailand. Which is not unthinkable > passengers might choose for cheaper destinations for instance Kuala Lumpur or Singapore. What is true about these rumours? Is Thailand really considering such flighttax?

If the flight tax happens, you can say goodbye to the entire tourism industry! Thailand's greatest achievement is shooting itself in the foot.

It's rubbish, airlines are exempt from any taxes like that, so no country imposes them, but they could hike the departure tax at airports, but 15% would be ludicrous. Forget it, it's not April, any more.
