Lost In Translation.

Lost In Translation.

Postby Sean Moran on Sat Nov 08, 2008 8:42 am

I can listen & speak a little pasa Thai, but I've regressed terribly with my reading & writing over these past two years, and hardly remember more than a couple of consonants in Thai script. Can anybody who reads Thai script please translate this email which was sent to my Bangkok Post Forum dedicated email address overnight, because I cannot understand the message that the sender is trying to communicate. I would hope that the forum staff might indicate this lingual requirement when they pass on my email address to advertising companies in future.

Here is the text of the email:

Oh...
...ummm, well ...
...umm - dash it all to jolly hell then!

Is that what it really says in Thai? How does that fit with the Shape2Slim then? Are they offering discount amputations for chronic arthritis sufferers? (Won't cost me an arm AND a leg will it?)

Actually, there haven't been any further unsollicited emails since that one, so maybe I just deserved it at the time?

Karma is a bastard sometimes!

Sean, I'm not going to try to change word for word. But the gist of the message has to do with loss of weight and high cholestrol without medecine, exercise, or reduction in food intake. Quite a statement, really, cause if it weren't for one part where they guarantee results and another part where they promise full refund if they fail, I might be interested, just to find out how it was done. Very funny.
Sorry, Sean. Can't communicate with you as I don't have your e-mail address. So solly

It is something that might be better that we all generally keep to ourselves on this forum, because many people read this stuff, and not all of them are good folk. A PM facility would ease things but that's not really what newspapers are meant for, so I reckon that the provision of a PM system here would merely serve to overload the current system and slow things down.

If you go to my homesite forum with only three members (all of them me) @ http://sinzear.net78.net/rum/ and join as Roger then I usually drop by there once or twice a day and I'll be happy to exchange email addresses via PM from there. In fact, there is provision for public and private correspondence right there, but if you are used to checking your standard email address periodically, then perhaps we can use that forum to exchange current email addresses and continue with our plans to take over the world before Christmas from there.

One way the bodylight com people could have contacted you is because they saw your email that you listed on our forum.

Go to the Bangkok Post Forum heading ‘Help’ then to sub heading, ‘family’ seaching for lost relatives’ sub sub heading ‘ Miss Archin & Mr Nopparat.’

Your email is there at the bottom of the message.

We can assure you and all of our Forum participants that the Bangkok Post does not allow other parties access to its customers email.

Miss Archin & Mr Nopparat.

If either of you or anyone remembering those heady days of Pak Kret are reading, I hope that
we can get back in contact here or by email again, and I don't forget your birthday in 60 days,
Miss Archin.

Not quite blood-relatives of mine but family from an employment perspective of days and
agencies gone by now.

Chok dee!

Dear Sir,

thank you for explaining the cause of that one dilemma. I am sorry that I forgot having posted that to my previous employers last month and accept that I might be wise to open a new email account one of these days if ever needs be.

I am very glad that it wasn't contrived through any correspondence via this forum, but by my own doing. The newspaper is very important to me.

Yours Sincerely,

Sean Moran.

The words, "snake, top-hat, crawl, under belly" spring to mind, maybe it's the wrong time of year to talk about spring, but springing under a snakes belly is not recomeded!
