The average wage (not necessarily a salary) is 5,000-6,000 baht per month.
Thailand has one of the most unequal distributions of wealth and wages, of anywhere in the world. Some Thais earn vastly more than 5,000 baht per month.

Beware of Banks

Postby Simon on Sat Jul 29, 2006 3:54 pm

I don't trust Thai banks.
I will tell you a bad experience that involved theft by the law.
In Pattaya 1991, I was on a long holiday, I've a bank account in a bank in North Pattaya the beach road. At the end of my stay, the balance in my account was around 19,000 B, I thought to leave it there since I'm a regular visitor to Thailand. And it can't be safer to leave some money than in a bank.
Due to personal reasons, I couldn't make it back to Thailand until 2001 . When I went to the teller's window and inquired about my money, he was incredibly astonished and seemed not able to believe my demand. Without looking or searching he simply said, the money has eroded and diminished.to nillity, he said that the bank takes his commission each month on the credit amount.
That was a funny explanation. I've dealt with banks that keeps your money to the last cent for 15 years, when the account is immobile, the bank will put an advertisement asking the depositor to come and collect his money, or it will be transfered to the treasury.
19,000 good Bahts were robbed by the bank, and I feel quite sour about it.

Simon, I read about your previous post before about your banking problem in Pattaya. All banks whether they are foreign bank or local Thai banks have this type of procedure. You should have continue to keep up your account. If the bank has foreign branches, then you should try to do your business there too. Most Thai banks now do have e-banking system. I done most of my banking online. Thai Banks do charge for each e-banking transactions so people should also beware of these charges. I would recommend that you use reliable address in Thailand or do e-banking. Sorry,...to hear about your problem. But I think the bank should do something for you. You might want to try Thai Military Bank, this bank has e-banking and lowest charges than other banks in Thailand. TMB also has foreign branches. You check with their head office at Lard-Phrao location on Pholhoyothin Road and Vipavadee-Rangsit Expressway. Good luck.

Yes, Ian. Thailand is an example of what happened when minority group has control of economic and political system. They will simply enslave the majority of the population and promote foreign style parlors for gray-line prostitution. PRC is another example of dictatorial promoted enslavement of population and promote low standard of living to compete with foreign labor markets; therefore, on the top ruling members will benefit from the labors of the poor people and mostly from minority groups from undeveloped areas.
So best way for foreigners to own a place of their own is to buy condominium and setting up businesses. They also can buy houses with leasing contract. If they are doing business in Thailand, than it is much easier. If foreigners bring in large sum of money, than they can own certain and some property of their own. Like any business contract, you need to employ good Thai lawyer to help you with acquiring property legally.
