Raising issues with local government

Raising issues with local government

Postby aparasher on Fri Mar 04, 2011 6:05 pm

We live in a small town in North-East Thailand. A few years ago local government here installed loudspeakers right in front of the house where they broadcast for 1 hour in morning and evening. Wife made complaint to local government, but most if the neighbours elderly people supported this and no action was taken.

Now we are going to have baby and fear that it may impact hearing as well as other disturbances for child.

What can we do?

Not much to do about this.

If the neighbourhood doesn't support you in this, you're left with 2 options:

1. Move
2. The Philippine solution (destroy the damn thing)

Aparasher,

If you choose for the second solution, suggested by Dutchboy, be aware neighbouring people might find out that you are the one to blame for it.
After having destroyed the loudspeaker, you might find out how friendly your elderly neighbours really are! Chok dee!

Outside of dealing with local government.....I'm assuming of the Amphoe variety, the more direct local way is to approach the moo baan pooyai or {in some cases} the village ombudsman - a more direct and very local way to solve disputes and village politics. The old morning loudspeaker might be an issue for some.....as it varies dramatically from locale to locale. Some might suffer every early morn at 4:15 AM, some communities rely on this "info post" only when needed and usually not until later in the morning or late afternoon. It is what it is.
