Koh Samui - 21st October, 2012 - The third Samui International Jazz Music Festival
came to a close with another spectacular display of Jazz, after a fun week where guests
were treated to fine wine, food and excellent jazz. The 2012 Samui International Jazz
Music Festival was dedicated to the theme of Tropical Jazz and the locations for the
various concerts have been especially identified to enhance the tropical feel with guests
and performers, which managed to be both upbeat and laid-back at the same time.
On the last evening the Main Stage at the Beachfront of Amari Palm Reef Koh Samui was
packed when jazz fans flocked to the last chance to listen to some amazing music.
As usual for a “last night” things got a little wild as the programmed format gradually
dissolved into a jam session with all the musicians and singers performing late into the
night, joined by the famous Thai saxophonist Koh Mr. Saxman.
The style of jazz also moved on with the Peter Beets Trio comprising Peter Beets on
keyboard, brother Marius Beets on Bass and Gijs Dijkhuizen on drums. They opened with
“Wheatlands” from the Oscar Peterson “Canadiana Suite” and were then joined by the
third ʻBeets Brotherʼ Alexander Beets on the Tenor Sax.
To this swinging combination was added CaboCubaJazz from Cuba and Cape Verdes, a
multi- national combination who played only original Latin Jazz songs which brought the
audience up on their feet dancing.
A Main Stage high-light was also the performance Koh Mr. Saxman meets the Beets
Brothers - Tribute to the //////. They performed original tunes composed by \\ //// //////
\\ //// Rama \ // himself.
Many of the artists from The Netherlands who have been performing at the Festival all
week then provided backing for various singers including Dasha from Ukraine and the ever
fun and talented Paulette McWilliams from Chicago, whoʼs long awaited performance
closed the evening with a performance full of energy.
On behalf of the board of the festival, we would also like to express our gratitude to all the
sponsors who have helped to make this event possible. Many thanks go to Mrs. M.L.

As the first steps in connecting Samui to the world of music have already been taken, the
hope is that this festival will grow with each year, ensuring that Samui will become a
renowned meeting point for Thai and International artists to perform together every year,
sharing their love of jazz and crossing boarders of continents, countries, races, genders
and music styles.
