Money is the game in ThaiLand. Money buys everything including the freedom of Thais
Politic is all about money whoever rich will win including Thaksin. He used to be the winner and then PM Abhisit, he has the money too, who will be next...What do you think?

sort of related to money...I think

Where do all those very smart Thai students (but without the elite last names, just from the country), very talented, very capable students from Harvard, MIT, etc. (I don't know about oxford and others since I live here in US).
go to or what do they do after they grad? I met quite a few of them thru the years here in the US. They are very smart, some outspoken, most are from small towns and villages, most if not all are on governement scholarship. There must have been thousands by now since the 80's. (The 50's, 60's and 70's were "awarded" to "nice" Bangkok families).
Back then I always thought that these students will one day help the country or even become a PM.

They are helping the country, but you don't know it. Alot of them have important but not spectacular jobs in government. Also, some may work high up in private sectors and that is also helping the country's economy.

Wishful thinking Ponyboy. I wish to think the same. But realistically, what sort of pay do you think these governmental positions offer? The offer of large amounts of extra cash or special favours are still very attractive to most of these scholars (note I said most, not all. There are, of course honest and dedicated ones, but not enough), since most have families to support, etc. So what happens? Obviously, loyalty is pledged to where one can gain most benefit (financially, being top of the list).

$$$ at the end of the day is still "//////".

You said yourself there must be thousands of them. This is why current government faces such difficulty to crackdown on the Reds. The current government's "root" has not been planted as deep as Thaksin's. Simple as that.
