British Embassy Land

British Embassy Land

Postby concerned expat on Wed Nov 29, 2006 2:20 pm

Can anyone tell me exactly what is going on with the land sold off by the British Embassy to The Central Group?
I have heard so many different stories, and now I am watching in horror as some beautiful trees, not to mention a wonderful view are being destroyed. I was led to believe that building would take place on land facing Ploenchit Road, not the larger part of the grounds, including the area around the lake in the grounds. Can anyone shed any light on this please?

I HEARD THAT THEY WILL TURN IT INTO A SHOPPING MALL. THE PROFIT FROM THE SALE WILL BE USE FOR DAILY OPERATIONAL EXPENSES AT THE UK EMBASSY. IF I LIVE IN THE AREA AND HAVE CONCERN ON THE OUTCOME OF THIS FUTURE MALL, I WOULD PROPOSE THAT CENTRAL GROUP SAVING SOME OF THESE TREES AND PLANTS AND SMALL AREA FOR THEIR GREEN MALL. THE LEVELS OF SHOPS AND WALK-WAYS SURROUNDING INNER PARK OR GARDEN...A OASIS PLACE FOR SHOPPERS TO REST.

Three towers of residential/commercial on top of major platform of commercial/retail. I was very surprized that Central did not make it into a park for children and elderly...

Are the UK Government that hard up? The new labour socialist government in the UK on reflection have been overspending on war on Afghanistan and Iraq so perhaps this is part of an attempt to raise working capital from sale of assets overseas so they can continue to operate. I question the ability of their representative consulate in Phuket which is a joke. He is too busy attending to his furniture making business and making money so does not give enough time to people seeking advise. I have heard this from several people who live or have visited there.

It's just the nature of the 'capitalist beast
throughout the world.
Where theres money to be made , ethics and morals usually come up last in the equation.! Even in the liberalised so called transparent democracies of the west.
