At this point, I'm not sure what any of us should do. My wife and I have spent the past few days talking about the situation. Both of us, for now, want to stay and see what happens, and hope for the best. But I'm also considering possible alternatives if things turn too ugly.

As a possible sign of things to come, as I mentioned in an earlier post last night, yesterday when my wife and I went to the local market, all of the workers, men, women and children, were softly "muttering" the same "chant". Not understanding what they were saying, I asked my wife. She told me they were using the old Lanna dialect and saying "True Thai will not be slaves to Siam".

That takes me back to yet another previous comment I made in regards to quote to Admiral Yamamoto after the bombing of Pearl Harbor: "I'm afraid we have awakened a sleeping tiger."

I have a feeling the "sleeping tiger" of the north has been awakened.

Lanna used be united with Lanxang, Shan and Sipsongpanna longer than they've been with Thailand (Siam) in ancient times so the Chiangmai dialect is similiar to that across the river in Luang Prabang , Lao.

You know the world has become so intertwined economically that kicking out foreigners is no longer an option. Nevertheless the days of the western foreigners being superior in some sort of way, is fast becoming a thing of the past. Thais are catching up to the west in leaps and bounds. Their doctors, academics and artists are just as good as the west. The slums of 30 years ago are disappearing. I am sure Bangkok will soon solve its transportation and pollution problems eventually. It is time for westerners to forget their colonial superiority complex and embrace Thailand as a partner.

Nelson Mandela said, "If the United States of America or Britain is having elections, they don't ask for observers from Africa or from Asia. But when we have elections, they want observers".

The time when Western men thinking that they are god's gift to Thai women is over as well. That's not to say real love can't happen between a western man and a Thai girl, but if I was a Thai man I'd want to kick out any foreigners who came to my country thinking that they were better than me.

This current political problem is a Thai problem and a necessary part of Thailand's growth towards self realization. Thailand will figure it out. It's time the west looked at the reality of its own situation.

So ture the only problem Jeffro. it was posted by a westerner no problems with that but I do like the heading of the post it has a ring about.

I would be careful on this forum as you might be classified as yellow shirt or PAD and Twlight Zone does not like this type of behavior on here. he is superpower here in this forum he can have you remove we are all scary of him.

Thailand want tourists but good tourist not just thinking about prostitutes and buying bar girls this is not going to be Thailand future and if these westerner are not happy with that then they should leave their time is ending soon.

I think why twlight zone is so worried. Because he may have a few beer bars and it not looking to good for him with no westerner coming to he’s beer bars Tuff time ahead for him. :?:

At least we may have a new government forming now which has a brighter outlook ahead.

Jeffro,
Sorry to correct, but you are using the wrong present tense. Unfortunately, we have slipped and fell a long ways in the past 2-3 years now and looks like the elites want it that way. Keep the poor uneducated and in their place.

Well Thong, the theories abroad, about the mysterious murder, are not so mysterious. It happened all the time in ancient history abroad.

To Jeffro, more honest love and equal treatment would do! Ohh, forgot, and to stay by your wife and to forget about this mia noi thing.

Mustang, maybe you shoud read the topic; democracy vs democrats.

Dear Jeffro, nothing wrong with yello_shirt, he is just trying to make friends her. I guess you found out already by the way he does write here and posting the same message all over the forum, that he does not have to be taken too serious.
