The Big Con of Gasohol
RE: The Big Con of Gasohol
This is an additional point you raised the lack of controls on the producers of ethanol and the level of water either deliberately left in or absorbed from the atmosphere being added to gasoline. (Maybe why I got such disgusting fuel economy) *Some Southern US States ban the sale of Gasohol during the rainy season, why I wonder?
I am NOT disputing the benefits to the environment of using ethanol as a fuel. I am saying that I burn MORE imported hydrocarbons by using Gasohol than if I don't!!!! It just makes no sense....especially when I visit a tapioca/starch factory that is running under capacity because they are loosing their growers produce to ethanol producers, while the workers sit at home...mmmm?
Its like the price of cooking oil going through the moon and the animal farmers in the US complaining about grain prices because its all going to ethanol production and forcing food prices up. Now we're seeing the effects of this money making "green revolution" creating world food shortages. It just doesn't make sense.....especially when water based hydrogen conversions are available.
I listened to the owner of the largest sugar mill here in Thailand explain how sugar cane is the perfect crop for biofuels with all byproducts going to biogas, MDF boards etc .,etc. Genius!
Why not plant sugar cane for ethanol and stop stealing other peoples livelihoods (tapioca). Make E85 so cheap and available and conversion kits like FlexTek available at Shell-Auto Serv.....oops ..PTT. If the government really wanted to help reduce oil imports they'd subsidize the LPG conversion kits and keep LPG prices low.....however the government is a large shareholder in PTT, I forgot! Better still how about PTT fitting LPG for free and have Aeon give '0' % interest on the equipment? Hmmmmm........more food for though.
