AIDS in Thailand

AIDS in Thailand

Postby prommee_NE on Wed Jan 21, 2009 3:31 am

BP Breaking News:

Approximately 1.2 million Thais contracted Aids and the ratio of men to women with the disease was about two to one, according to the Public Health Ministry's 24-year report from 1984 to September 2008.

Public Health spokesman Suphan Srithamma on Sunday said there were

337,989 accumulated patients and 92,111 of those, or about a quarter of the total, already died.

This conflicts somewhat with this:

Whilst I realise that Thailand had a very good record in suppressing this awful problem...it is not off the hook yet. The figures published in this report make it seem as if only 1.2 million people were affected in 24 years! Not only is the Public Health report negligent in the false reporting of the facts but so is BP in only reporting them and not doing any research into whether they were true or not.

I leave any further points for discussion.

Dear prommee_NE, this has been like this since I remember. Thai statistics and numbers of HIV infected people always have been much more optimistic, then numbers from international organizations. Not sure if it is the government’s way to promote s*xtourism in Thailand.

Is there a link you can find for more proven statistics?
A friend of mine always relates his surprise to the fact that many women in the country are willing to have bareback without prior discussion. More education in this area is needed.

Dave, unfortunately, that is what I have been told by some people, who know about it (s*xtourists). Apparently some folks would even pay more to go bareback and some uneducated girls really think that if they should get it, they can take some medicine and every thing is fine again.

Not much education anymore, this days, when it comes that this subject, again, unfortunately.

Dave, re statistics, have you tried the HMO, or so site? I may try to find some for you later.

And sulasno, I think, that in the parlors, at least the better ones, there is more control. At least, that is what I have been told.

Generally, I do not condemn to pay for s*x, but to go barefoot is like playing Russian roulette. Just my humble opinion.
