When I first come in Pattaya

Fast Eddie, thanks for the cue! I love playing pool. (how did you guess?)
If you travel along the coast towards U-Tapou, there are also some fantastic beaches, good restaurants and very few drunken farangs. (to be honest I saw non, but that does not necessarily mean there are none. And no, I am not blind!)
Very good for a family holiday with cheap, air-con chalets (two and three bedrooms) and local amenities.
BTW, I went to Pattaya once for two days when I first came to Thailand. I will never go there again!

Oh yes, stilljustbrowsing, you are very right indeed. Some lovely spots along the coast, and as you say, very family orientated with out the jetsum/floatsam of Pattas. However, as I don't get much free time I'm not up for spending most of it behind the driving wheel. So, I sacrifice a little quality for a bigger quantity of time to enjoy myself - the inevitable trade-off!
You know, it also a bit of fun to watch the world go by in its baser form - a bit like going to the freek show at Cony Island, I imagine!  Not that I am to judge anyone in anyway - as I said Pattya is horses for courses

What got to me was not Pattaya itself or the night life as such, I enjoy a good show.
It was the "eyes of the dead" in the faces of the dancers and the total disregard to basic respect shown by many drunken "farangs".

I live in Pattaya because it is NOT like the rest of Thailand. I don't love Thailand and I don't love the Thais. I don't hate them either. They are people who have their good and bad points, like any others. The 'real 'Thailand is a noisy village with no intellectual pursuits at all . Pattaya is a Western town stuck in the far east which is what I want.

Secondly Women turn to prostitution because it is easy money. You can make in a day what you normally make in a month stop whining about how hard done by they are -noone forces them in Pattaya .We have prostitutes in the west as well.

Thirdly its up to me why I want t0 live here not some \\\ ///// farang who thinks only those who 'love'Thailand should be here .I'm staying and i'll whine as much as I like .Don't like it ? Don't listen. This is a forum not an auditorium.

How true, without differences of oppinions and a place to air them there would be very few "forums"?

Spot on Whiffles! 8-) As I've said many times -Pattaya is horses for courses and everyone has a place there. I'd say it was actually better than a Western City as you have a wide raft of cultures rubbing shoulders together. everyone will find their favourtie corner to hang-out and I've mentioned a couple of mine. I do recommend Tropical Berts as a base for those who like to have a sane, well run and hospitable hang-out (especially if you are ex-services from the UK)that is well priced.

Hey, don't knock my buddy the WM - he's an angel as far as I'm concerned (I've still got a big 0 in my new messages box) 8-)

cheers

When I first came to Pattaya many of the streets were still unpaved. The city has grown since then. 20 years has a way of doing that to any place. Some of us who have spent the past 20 years living or traveling to our beloved city have seen many changes. Some call it paradise lost. But in my opinion, nothing has been lost. Like all cities in the world Pattaya has it's problems. Like most cities it has areas that cater to the sex industry. But in no way is that a reflection of Thailand as a whole. I think before you insult the Thai people, you should all take a long hard look at yourselves. You all went there for what? The beaches? I don't think so. It just makes me angry when tourists most which are scorned by their ex-lovers, turn their energy towards bad mouthing the practices which they themselves have participated. Stop insulting the Thais. If you are unhappy there, Go home. You will more then likely be replaced by someone who wants to be there. Besides I am sure your country is so perfect, must be why you left in the first place.

On On, Ping Pong
