The Happy Beer Garden, opposite Patpong, food is good and cheap, the girls who work there will take good care of you, gets really busy though, but its great for people watching.

The music bar in the middle of Patpong, is good (not a girlie bar), great live music and again a great place for people watching.

Vertigo Bar, Top of Banyan Tree Hotel, a dress code is implimented, views are fantastic, but is very expensive.

Silom Village, Silom Road, food great, Bangkok Prices, staff are very good, Live shows, good for people watching.

O'neals or O'Rileys (not quite sure), Irish Bar, Suraswong Road, great atmosphere and good place to watch Premier league football.

Street Market, Soi 9 (i think) Silom Road food is great

thanks for the info

I like watching chicks instead of people

Sawasdee krub,
Let me start with lil' intro, i have been to Thailand few times and i must say Thai peole are really courteous and wel-coming espcially their smiles( keep up that smile). i enjoy thai food and luckily i still do get to eat typical thai food here in west coast with ummmm... ofcourse singa beer.
OK lets stick with the subject, i would definately recommend those lil' makeshift bar around sukhmit area ( evening time)first of all its an open air and you get pretty much basic bar selection and best part is you can order some snacks along or hop into another makeshift and try something else which makes the night go just at a snap. i do like some bar around sukhmit i think its much better than khaosan area. so go figure out.
i am out of time i will write more next time.

this is my first blog on this site.
Godspeed to all reader.

I'm recently arrived in Bangkok and looking for places which fit between local streetside tables and full-on hostess-style places.

I've tried the Witch's Tavern on Thong Lor (Sukhumvit 55), not bad, nice cold pint of Heineken draught 160Bt, 5pm-8pm happy hour 1-for-1 on bottled beer, sports on TV, live Thai band later in the evening

I also met the people redoing Champagne Charlie's next to Asok BTS -- they're taking off the Champagne part and remaking it as a sports pub, a bottle of Heineken in there was 110Bt, the only drawback being the Mad Whistle Man directing traffic outside... but the manager assured me MWM would be silenced, one way or another...... ;)

Wow, a real novice!
Whistle blowing is frowned upon here!
Those that blow whistles only do so because they are paid to do so!
The biggest draw-back is an elephnt's 4-skin, unless you know different. and you sat there for "how long"?
"How Long" is a respected China-man, how much "string" do you have and did you ever meet him?

I moved to Thailand in early 2003 and coming from Norway Bkk was a nice change.I love Asian women and when I first came here I knew nothing. Nana Plaza soon became my first favorite.Patpong has the "hot" shows but the bars looks rundown and worn . . . . . . so did the women compared to other places.I was out last night looking around and was shocked how much things has changed. The first few years these bars was amazing but soon became used to them and lately I have been going to smaller local bars where I live.Last night I wanted to listen to some farang music so off I went.In my wiev Pat Pong is dying . . . more and more bars close.Nana Plaza is the same . . . . . . but boy has Soi Cowboy changed !! Nearly every single bar has fixed up the place. On the outside it looks great with new fronts and alot more neonlights.Inside the furniture is comfortable. Most of the girls found in Soi Cowboy are also generaly better looking.Just around the corner from Soi Cowboy you can find a smallEnglish pub called " The Ship" with great food. Now when I feel like a quick snack I go to Nana Plaza. At the enterance there is a place that in my wiev sell the best hamburgers in Bkk.
So from now on it is Soi Cowboy for me.

I frequent these 3, apart from Soi Cowboy:

  • Hard Rock Café in Siam
  • The Rock Pub, Radchatewee, opposite Asia Hotel
  • Molly Malones's Irish Pub off Convent Road, near the Saladaeng BTS

I like going to BamBlu Bar (thonglor 10) on the weekdays. They have open mic nights where you can bring your guitar or play their keyboard for fun. The crowd is one that is not too interested in the hit songs but like to hear more of your songs. The Stella draft and Hoegarden are my favorite beers. The place is not too big and the service is ok. It's too hot to sit outside but it's ok if you just want to have a quick smoke and get back in. They also have a pool table upstairs that rarely has anyone play. The price is about average.
