asssumptions are a dangerous thing.
Why accuse people of being bad when things are already set in place to mislead them?
If there was no market for such a thing, the market would collapse.

I lived and worked in Pattaya for 5 years.....This was my first stay in Thailand, in my young and wild days, so I enjoyed the nightlife and the girls....but I agree it is expensive......and not worth the money!!
After 5 years in Pattaya I relocated to Phuket.
Phuket is somewhat more expensive, but you also get a lot more for your money when staying there!
If you stay away from the west coast like Kata, Karon and Patong, then you can find a very nice hotel at a reasonable price.
Now I live in Sichon Beach, at the mainland opposite Koh Samui.
Here things are very very affordable compared to both Phuket and Pattaya.
I often visit my friends in Phuket, and then I and my wife stay at a hotel in Phuket Town with air con, hot water, fridge and cabel TV. Price is 500 baht per night. A similar room in say Kata would cost you minimum 1.500 baht per night. Tripple up!!
And the food and things are also more expensive there!

Compared to Sichon, here you can get a bungalow at the beach with air con for 500 baht per night.
Food and other stuff is less than half the price in Phuket and Pattaya! But of course we do not have a pizza bar or a beer bar at every corner, but I can do without Some stuff in Pattaya and Phuket is 3 times more expensive than here in Sichon.
Not to forget our beaches...they are officially rated 4.5 Stars, compared to 4 Stars in Phuket...don't know how many Stars in Pattaya, but guess around 3 Stars will be the maximum

When I first came to Pattaya in 1980, it was a bustling, noisy, dirty, badly developed and very busy place. As far as I know, the working girls were attracted there by the US military as it was a favoured R&R stop during the conflict in Vietnam. When the US left the place was left in a very sorry state, the only real attractions then being the bars and the girls.
The beach was still a very useable place then but there were signs it was getting bad and some days the pollution made the sea a cesspit. Thankfully, that has now been put right with the opening of the water and sewage works but the beach does need some reworking. The beach road should be dug up, the beach expanded back to its natural limit, which was beyond the road in the 1960s.
New shade trees should be planted, not coconuts, and the commercial properties along the East side of the road need to be improved and a wide pedestrian pavement/walkway needs to run the length of the beach. The night life is all part of the charm of the place and need not be reduced/controlled/regulated any further.
It is now a much cleaner, if just as noisy place as it was when I first came here. Still work needs to be done to restore Pattaya to its rightful place as a major tourist destination of Asia. Expanding U Tapoa airport is a step in the right direction but the beach lets the city down.
It can be done and it should be done, soon!

I've been coming to Thailand for over 20 years as a tourist with my family and taken Thailand and its people at face value on a case by case basis............you will not like everyone you meet nor everywhere you go....... which is the same the whole world over..

I avoided Pattaya for 20 years mainly because of it's reputation on the seedier side of life but recently went to look at condo's in Jontiem though I stayed in South Patts........I loved it......the seedier side is there if you so desire but the people are still Thais, mainly Essan, and the smiles are still there....the clubs and the nightlife are great and plenty of great restuarants and sights to see.....admittedly not the real LoS and has more than its fair share of drunken Farangs....and like the rest of LoS there are great areas nearby to explore.....for when you want to escape the hustle and bustle.......
