How deep can you sink? Well, when it comes to Thai Airways, then there is no limit, no more. I am so sad and very angry and here comes why;

Sorry for repeating myself here, but I worked as a tour operator for many, many years, and therefore I think I have a little knowledge, regarding air travelling. Well, since ever, most airlines in the world, were very helpful, when it came to help costumers in emergencies. One such an emergency would be to make everything possible, to get you back home in case of somebody dying or you had to go back home for a funeral in a hurry. Most airlines would even offer you free upgrades if necessary, just to get its costumers home in time.

Well, what does Thai Airways in times of crisis? Listen and be amazed;

Two of my best friends, he Swiss, she from I-Saan are on holidays in Thailand. After a week there, they got a call from home, telling them, that my friends best pal, a guy who was like a brother for him, died.

All my friends wanted, was to get home on time for the funeral. Being on Samui at the time, they contacted TG on the island, to have their return tickets changed for the next days flight back home to Switzerland. Of course was there no way, that they could be help on the island.

So, they took a flight to Bangkok that same day, to talk with TG there. TG was very helpful, and offer to put them on the next day’s flight back to Switzerland for 1,000 Swiss Francs each. Remember, they were holding return tickets on TG already. And for people who are not friend with Swiss Franks, it is about 30 Bath to the Frank, or 60,000 Bath for two change of reservations for a case of emergency!

What can I say? Honestly, I am sad that he and his wife missed the funeral of his best friend. I would never in my life have accepted myself to pay 1,000 CHF per person for a change of a flight neither. I think that TG has just become the worst airline I know, from my point of view. To try to make money, on the expenses of a customer who is going through a sad lost, well, no words for it. Should the PAD airline tomorrow be grounded, well I would be the first one to drink on it.

Seems like the new responsibles of TG decided, to rip off us much customers as they can, to make up the losses caused through the airport closings. All I can say is; TG rest in peace… My and my wife’s frequent flyer miles card with TG are in an envelope, back to TG, for them to keep our cards.

Two former frequent TG flyers.

I don't fly TG anymore;

I was holding 2 tickets to Bangkok on Business Class (more than 10 years ago) and they simply dumped me when I reach the airport, saying that I did not reconfirm my tickets. What a bunch of bulls***
I was away from Bangkok for less than 3 days and I don't have to reconfirm my tickets

I stopped using TG a long time ago. I needed to fly both to New York and Dubai and found that TG was DOUBLE the price of the two lowest fares avaialble. Both Gulf Air and Emirates were far below TG and therefore got my business. I have to say the price with Emirates was great and the service and food were amazing!
TG should get real with their pricing , their service AND the food! and stop trying to make up huge losses from their potential customers!

Hi Bill, I,ve no reason to doubt Mac,s word as I know he is a very sincere person , however the the main cause for Thai loseing business on a huge scale is that they just cannot compete price wise with the other "carriers" of course Mac will be aware of this too but the alarming post he wrote do,s "THAI" no good whatsoever .

Villager, TG does it self no favour with actions like this.

I know that they are unwritten laws, but helping somebody in an emergency is just human. You do not want to make money on top of it, do you?

And hey, to charge 30,000 Bath for a one way ticket, considering that you are already holding a valid return ticket, that is a rip off.

My suggestion to him was, to report this case to I.A.T.A. CH after returning.

As I said my friend, before, most airlines would rather upgrade you for free in order to get you home, then charge you for a change of reservation.

Maybe times have changed. I will talk to some friends who are still in the business, to find out what they think in regard.

Just a year ago I had to return to the states for a medical emergency in regards to my service connected disability. I had lost the use of my right leg, was starting to lose the left one as well, and had to get back to Arizona in a hurry. Because of my medical condition, there is no way I could travel Economy and had to go business or first class. As it happened, a friend of my wife came by with her son and he told me about EVA Airlines and to check them out. Boy, am I glad! They have the Economy class, then Emerald class, then Business class, which others would show as Business & First Class respectively. As it turns out their Emerald class, which is the same as Business for other airlines, was 60% CHEAPER than Thai Air for the same thing. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who I went with.

Not only that, but once I boarded the plane in BKK, and they realized I had a medical problem, they moved me to a seat near one of the exits so that I would have room to stretch my legs out if need be due to severe cramping at times. The flight attendants were exceedingly friendly, constantly checking on me to make sure I was ok and if I needed anything, and the food was great! When I arrived in LA they had arranged for a wheel chair for me to take me to my connecting flight to Phoenix. On my return trip I was fortunate enough to have the same flight attendants. They remembered me, were very warm, and even managed to do a little maneuvering to get me the same seat I had used on my initial flight.

When I got back to C.M., one of the first things I did was to sit down and compose a letter to EVA to praise them for their services. I then sent emails to everyone I know back in the States telling them that if they plan on coming to Thailand, or anywhere else in Asia, the first thing they need to do is check out EVA, and to completely AVOID Thai Air.

Thai Air may be the national carrier, but they really can't compete with other air carriers when it comes to price, and sometimes even service. After the PAD takeover of the airport, which they supported, once they realized how much business they were losing, instead of lowering prices as an incentive, they RAISED them, which lost them even more business. To be honest, I don't see how they are even still in business.

That is something, I wonder myself. I really expected TG to be grounded, unless the government injected some millions into TG. But did they?

Hi J1V, for price and quality EVA is as good as any and better than most , i,ve flown with them 5 times , for me Eva and Emerites offer a first class service at a premium price and I,M sure all in this forum will agree that both Mac and yourself whilst pulling no punches know what the "score" is and do the travelling public a "service" by informing them of the facts.
