Cat Infestation

Cat Infestation

Postby Mike on Wed Jun 17, 2009 11:24 pm

Hi,

i have a house with garden and my immediate farang neighbour sports 4 cats. I see some, mostly in the morning, stalking around. They pisss around and mark their territory, when cutting the grass i find 5-7 mines, that i have to maneuver around with the lawnmower to avoid a terrible mess. It stinks like hell and sure full of marburg, cholera, and other virus. I cannot let my kid run around certain areas.

I bought a sling shot and trapped one black cat under the wood terrace and shot, but missed it. Now i bought some bayer rat poison and mix that with some cat food and its eaten every morning.. the black cat disappeared but i see other ones so i am not sure if that works at all on cats. I saw some submachine bb gun that may work but wife denied to fork out the 7K for this interesting toy

Dont give me this " ah you are such a cruel animal killer !" these are stray cats, since they are on my property, and don't belong to me, they are 'stray' no matter who they maybe belong to. I have a legal gun (wife paper) and was thinking maybe i can shoot them, but i feel stupid if i have to hide outside, camouflaged and bathed in mosquito repellent for the whole night, and maybe the neighbors will feel intimidated if they spot me. Also it can be dangerous if the bullet bounces off.

I am sure many of you have a house with garden, maybe you had the same problem and have some advice what works on the thai-cats ??

You do appear to be a little "strange".
Nevermind, I will not yet call you a cat killer, being as how you failed in your quest.
S  sprinkle some chilly powder or pepper around the garden. If that fails, get a dog, although they crap more than cats, at least you can more clearly see the crap the dog leaves. BTW, the bigger holes left in the garden by the dog are only where it puts it's bones, so you don't have to worry too much if your last shovel full is full of that which you are trying to avoid, unless the cat is more clever than the dog, in which case I don't know who to reprimand more, the dog for being stupid, or you for buying a stupid dog.
Alternatively you could invest in a dominant cat speciese. This has a twofold reaction. All the other cats stay away from it's patch, and dogs think twice about encrouching upon such a dominant area. (smells like anythink)
If all of that fails, I can introduce you to my friends "slinky" the annaconda, or "jaws". Jaws Is a big spider BTW.
So, how are your "kids" now? Or are you just acting the goat?

I'll second SJB's statement about you being a bit strange. As for advice, mine would be to learn to live with them. Otherwise, suggest you get some Rambo training, spend the 7K for your Rambo gun and shoot all the cats and mosquitos in your yard.

To further assist you, for some strange reason, all cats speak Thai.
Wait for them to say something. If it is a male cat, you will here the sound "oooowwwww, oooooowwwww".
If is is a female cat you will hear "miiiiii ooowww, miii ooww"

If I ever saw you shooting a cat I would do my best to exterminate you. perhaps you prefer being overrun by rats and snakes. A cat is a very clean and fastidious animal, it likes to bury its dirt, all you have to do is provide an enclosed sand area in the corner and the cats will use it.
Un neutered toms squirt to mark territory, just like dogs \\ ////, I rounded up all the neighbours cats and strays and had then neutered, it is only a few baht per cat. Thais are rarely prepared to spend money on their animals so you have to do it for them, they will not object.
A near neighbour poisoned a stray tom, it was a painful and disgusting death. I happened to be the local cat //////, he now has about 6 other cats contesting for the territory every night, serve the bastard right. I have told him that if he poisons anymore I will get him arrested for illegal gambling.
I have 11 cats, 3 live in my house, 2 live part-time in my house, two live in my tenant's house opposite and the rest live in my spare house next door.
The ones that live in my house have taught themselves to use my pedestal toilet (western toilet), all I have to do is flush it.
Untrained dogs are a hundred times worse than cats, I am always clearing up dog \\ //// at the front of my house, never cat \\ ////.
The real answer to your problem is to get a Tom of your own, however, you don't sound a suitable person to keep pets. A pity as any child psychologist will tell you that pets are good for teaching children responsibility and empathy.

I even taught my pet rabbit to use a human toilet. However, some rabbits just couldn't get it. It really depends on the intelligence of the individual. What I don't like about cats is their desire to kill smaller or more vulnerable animals even when they are properly fed by their owners. They cruel animals that also make others' suffer slow, painful and terrifying deaths.

My cats taught themselves just by watching me, at first I used to wonder who was the secret whiddler until I caught them at it. My last rabbit was like a cat, had the run of the house, had it own toilet box, would jump on your lap and chase balls. Mind you he grew up with two cats so probably got his signals crossed, even tried to mount them when he got older.

I have 11 cats,

.. look youre saying "as a responsible pet owner" and hinting at my child educational deficencys  , well with your statement you confirmed both of these points for yourself.

As you cannot be a responsible pet owner unless you make sure that your hairballs only stay on your property and dont ransack somebody elses garden. If they wander around and the neighbour gets rid of them, he has all the right to do so. No matter if you object that emotionally, its his property and you did not put your cats on a leash.

there are serious diseases contracted from cats and toxoplasmosis, a parasitic form, is one of them. Your solution:

all you have to do is provide an enclosed sand area in the corner and the cats will use it

sure i will provide that for neighbors cats and stray cats in my garden, so it will be more convenient for them to poo

We are responsible pet owners and we have a pug, he is free within our property, he does not bark at all. The maid and me walk him out and he does his business where nobody lives and walks on a leash outside. Just like it should be.

As i said earlier, i am against harassing my neighbors by any means, and that includes pet, and i expect the same thing in return.

I was asking for useful information on how to get rid of cats, so far the only usable suggestion is from G2security on the spray and from sillbrowsing on chilli powder, well thanks for that, spray seems like a USA product, but i will check for something similar in bkk.

That was quick! Mike becomes mike2 in the blink of an eye and continues where he left off. (very subtle)
Cats are one of the most arrogant, indepedant animals we have the pleasure to share our lives with.
How is the rat population in your area, for without the cats, the rat population will "explode", and they transmit far worse diseases than cats.
The only reason your pug cannot bark is because of the inbreading and reqiurements of the "pedigree club" to breed dogs with accentuated faults. Gimme a good old mongrel any day! :P  (and it is probably scared the cats will eat it)

Well now, you are making some assumptions, firstly my cats cannot ransack a neighbour's garden, they do not have gardens. However I have bought the house next to mine specifically as living quarters for some of the cats and to create a garden for them, and us, to enjoy.
As to diseases, dogs are far worse, this is why in England dogs are not allowed of their leads in parks.
As you seem to favour poison I assume you are happy to destroy the local bird life as well. how you can prefer a pug to a cat I cannot understand, it's not even a real dog.
Still it takes all types, the best cat deterant is an ultrasonic one, but you will need to turn it off when you let your pug outside.
Alternatively surround your boundary with lemon or orange peel or spray with citronella, cats are repelled by citrus smells.
