Century Park hotel

New to the forum, I have booked our 20th wedding anniversary holiday to Hong Kong then Bangkok then Hua Hin, booked to stay in the Century park hotel near victory monument For end June 2010.
News reports state it was set on fire, can anyone tell me if this is true or just the press getting the wrong end of the stick?
Any help on where to go and what to do whilst in Bangkok would also be gratefully received, as a bit nervous about going after recent troubles. Only in bangkok for 3 days.
