Lack of interest towards tourism

Thailand is my chosen home and after all that yellow and red blocades I am very much concerned about the governament's policies towards the tourism industry . Now as the dust being settelled and the new cabnit is installed please pay your immediate attention towards tourism, a lot of small business around the country is on the brink of collapse.

As a frequent past visitor I must again state I live in a area that relies of tourism that has revolved into a Hospitality business, theirs a huge difference between the two but as far as the government to focus on this business is observed other than to offer a level of safety for the traveler's.

Thailand over the past decades have been slowly destroying this industry by gem scams and taxi and tuk tuk rip offs along with double pricing and now corrupt police at airports arresting innocent visitors .The riots and terrorism is not much of a help but those wounds will heal but the jet ski rental you tubes we all views and the airport employees at baggage throwing items over the fences to their co~ criminals that were caught on video still burn in the travelers minds as other Asian countries too advantage of this and rolled out the red carpet for their new visitors
As the highest quoted once the Thais worst enemy was their own greed. the decline in tourism have just been populated over the inter net for the past last few years, the glitter and Too many suicides of falling tourist of hotel tops,to many dead bodies found in its beaches...It little to do with the terrorism . Its the geed and scams that's present all over Thailand that have been exposed ,many even were partaken with local police involvements.Many Thais cut off the hand that once feed them their self

Thailand should be the window of the world as far as tourism is concerned however, graft, corruption and scams put an end to that... Potential visitors now see the kingdom as being a place to be avoided at all costs and that sort of thinking can only be resolved when police and others involved are induced, by whatever means necessary, to change their ways of thinking and attitudes ... They haven't yet realise they're killing the tourist goose that lays the golden eggs and they'll be the first to suffer - which has now become evident and bound to get a damn site worse

For those not involved and wanting to know how to resolve the problem - the simple answer is ...YOU CAN'T... not until those at fault realise the error of their ways and change accordingly however, that won't happen in my life time roll:

Of importance would be for immigration to take a good hard look both at it's policies regarding tourists and those wanting to stay here and stop treating them like something that crawled out from under a rock

The next best thing would be to educate children both in homes and schools and make them aware of the importance of tourism and to act accordingly because the older generation appears to be beyond redemption and a lost cause.

Maybe farangs and Thai can then work together to ensure the kingdom returns to it's rightful place in the international scheme of things including tourism however ... Thais must make the first move, and stop being so bloody parochial.

Great post Ian ,IMHO could well be that Thai Chinese who actually run the Country may somehow see us farangs as a threat to their decades old financial stranglehold on Thailand ,cos we are not part of the uneducated downtrodden masses which suit their purposes oh so well

Ref. my comment and responses by Taurus and shell collector (all of June 8) ... Taurus, two minds think alike on this issue and thanks for your endorsement. As for shell collector, I'd rather not comment other than say 'tunnel vision effects one's comprehension' Until Thai immigration realises that it's holds the key to the issue and starts acting compassionately rather than a draconian obstacle to battle with, then they, together with discrimination and political unrest will cause tourists and retirees and what they contribute to Thai economy to leave and ... stay away forever.

Well IMHO the retirees here in Thailand are extremely Important , not only to the financial wellbeing of the Country as a whole but provide employment for many local tradesmen ,plus many marry a Thai lady who may have children from a previous marriage who are taken care of ,education ,good food ,nice house etc were otherwise both the lady and her children may well be on the "breadline" , although I am not personally involved with someone else's children I know dozen's who are, and from what I have seen the stepfathers treat them as their own, how many times do we read in the newspapers of some young drunk tourist causing mayhem in the many tourist resorts , whilst most of the retirees live in the rural area's and are never heard of but many provide help for the locals in various ways, yes I think its safe to say that the retirees are a very valuable addition to any local village community here in Thailand, and I would appreciate some feedback on this from those who ACTUALLY LIVE HERE.

]Dear shell collector, if you found my comment offensive - I sincerely apologise - I often shoot from the hip and call a spade a bloody shovel on topics such as this and it's unfortunate some readers take them the wrong way.

What I was trying to convey was the fact that there are a multiple of factors and shortcomings relating to Thailand's decline both in tourism and other areas that effect me and others similarly situated...Because of sheer frustration, it often feel the only way of getting through to them is with an iron fist in a velvet glove however, there are unfortunately, those who can't see the trees for the wood I read and respect all the comments you submit - keep them coming.
