Multiple Farang Deaths in Phuket

I hear you all said about injustice in Thailand and it very sad for me to hear that. Yes it all true of course and no doubt that many of you have experience. I think Thailand don’t understand about good standard and good working practice which would have give they pride. Because of poor standard no one would care to make a good job as a priority. They would leave thing undone and push your urgency to the bottom of the files. They will only act if you can produce some kind of influence over them. Otherwise tomorrow never comes. I think Thailand need to change itself from the culture of no problem with big smile and always say yes to everything but promise nothing. This culture change should begin from young age for it to work but if the parent themselves doesn’t act responsibly then it would much more difficult for the change to take place.

Drowning is one of the main causes of farangs deaths in Phuket especially during monsoon season. The Red flag warnings posted (indicating rough unsafe water for swimming) at the beaches aren’t enough.

Perhaps the airlines could help? Have airline captains make announcements prior to landing in Phuket about the dangers of swimming in rough seas.

Hotel reception could warn guests upon arrival of the dangers.

Wouldn’t be surprising to hear that people who choose to swim when therer are dangerous tides are somewhat inebriated!

Phuket is the Crime Capital of Asia, by far the worst possible place for a tourist, foreign or Thai to visit. Murder, Rape and Assault are common place and no nationality is spared.

Ouch. I am planning a trip to Thailand in a few months. Phuket was on my list of places I might visit. Now I will pick another island. And so it begins. I'm glad I read the BP and its forums. Thanks Pongsac and all of the others.

In the 70's Jamaicans robbed the tourists until they stopped coming. Even the poor people began to understand because there was no one to steal from. I don't know how long it took Jamaica to convince the tourists it was safe to return but it did take years. Thailand, please pay attention.

People on holiday are incredibly naive and think that the sea is just a big swimming pool .
I used to regularly visit a good atlantic surf beach in Cornwall , England .
One day I saw two small children going into the sea with a lylo(sp) , where there are rip currents and whirlpools .
I quickly went after them and advised them not to swim there ; that the use of a lylo in the sea was extremely dangerous on that beach .
Their parents followed me into the sea ; I explained to them the danger , that nobody swims on that part of the beach .
They told me to mind my own business , that they were on holiday and would swim where they liked .

My friend and I left the beach and explored farther down the coast , we returned a couple of hours later and were told that a man had drowned .

People of any race and color generally do stupid things when on vacation. As for the drowned Farang in Phuket they should all be checked for drug and alcohol in the blood as well.

Sounds like Phuket is not the tourist attraction its suppose to be for Farangs... I bet the Police would do something if all Farangs stayed away ! No money no honey ! Jobs would suffer, people would suffer, Police Chief might get fired and a new one hired... I say boycot Phuket until something is done and the criminals are found... No more Go-Go bars - no more hotels - no more flights - nothing... See how that hits the bottom line - the all mighty Baht !!!

Replies welcome - I am a Farang and I enjoy Thailand but its not to die for. Maybe next time on vacation I'll spend my dollars in Singapore. I know for a fact they love tourists - the new Casino is off the hook !!!! Book today and you'll see SIngapore has all that Thailand has to offer - except the killings...

There is something of a pampered child about the lecherous ugly Western single male coming into Thailand -- a loser in his own country in terms of scoring on chicks. The Thai Government should stop the stock market of love to openly send out the signals to the rich western nations that they can wash their dirty linen in Thailand, which to my mind is still the most sacred and 'suphaab' place on earth.
As regards growing deaths of multiple farangs in Phuket, the outcome of negative, criminal activities is bound to be accepted. You just can't come into Thailand and turn it into the playground of your fantasies.

Please keep Thailand the way it is, pure and humble and sacred. Just because people are needy, don't let the farangs take advantage of you. Thai women have been the most dignified and respected down the centuries. The culture is so rich, having its origins in ancient civilisations of India and China and many other rich cultures.
The government has done well to keep English from wiping the Thainess of the country's linguistic fabric. Thailand was never colonised, never will be. Let all farangs who come here, make an effort, get off their bums and study Thai. Do they teach Thai in western countries? No!!!

Are you suggesting that Farang deserve to be robbed and murdered because we are all just sex tourists.
Stop blaming farang for all your problems, Thailand fails to provide for the majority of its people so these people will resort to anything to obtain financial security for themselves and their families. Often people blame the Thai governments corruption for this situation but really its the newly affluent middle class who say nothing and do nothing to help their fellow Thais drag themselves out of poverty, why? because they just do not care.
Yes you can learn Thai in western countries but nobody is expected to learn it.Why? because unless you are in Thailand which is a fairly small and insignificant country its completely useless, where as English is widely spoken all over the world. Why should farang who come here learn thai anyway we are not in the same situation as the 150,000 Thais that LIVE! in Australia who can own businesses 100%, own property, have the same protection under the law as an Australian etc.
Also don't forget that the majority of thai prostitutes cater for Thai customers so please don't spout this nonsense about Thais being dignified and respectable (you were joking right?). The Thais should get off their bums and improve their decaying society and then nobody would have to prostitue themselves unless by choice.

Also Peter I was always quite successful with women in my own country, I stay in Thailand because I don't like paying Australian tax. To tell you the truth I really don't give a damn what Thais think of me but any little thai coward that trys anything on me will be in for a huge shock.
