I used to live in Bangkok for over 3 years and enjoyed every minute of my time exploring the various food haunts at hotels, restaurants and roadside food stalls all over Thailand. However, one word of caution though. As a foreigner, our body immunity is not as high as the locals.....so do avoid those food vendors whose hygience is suspect eg. no fresh supply of water to wash plates etc.., food stalls next to construction sites, rubbish dumps. Rule of thumb for me is to eat where many of the local Thai people eat. Do be adventurious and you will enjoy every bit of your food hunt. Happy hunting !

I avoid those that wash the dishes in the street gutter.

Yea i know how it feels

If you want cheap food in bangkok try any branch of Central department store chain. At the supermarket level there is a food court with many varieties of food just like the stalls on the street and prepared under more hygienic conditions.

I do like the cheap Thai food that is served on the streets, you just have to be careful of how clean the vender is. I am an american that has lived here for several years and I can not believe how hard it is to find a good place to eat breakfast at a good price early in the morning. I did find one great place on soi 33 called Bar Fly. It is open at 7:00 am and has the best american breakfast in town. Homemade hash browns they can cook eggs over easy, it reminds me of the greesy spoons back in the U.S. Give them a try if you are home sick.
