Alongside the values of quality, creativity and Italian artisanal craftsmanship, for which the brand is renowned, Gucci also believes in the importance of a responsible attitude towards people, the environment and the communities in which it operates.

In line with the environmental efforts of the House, Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry is pleased to announce a new Bamboo watch and jewelry collection in collaboration with Li Bingbing, the renowned Chinese actress. Li Bingbing, who currently stars in the advertising campaign for Gucci Timepieces & Fine Jewelry is well known for her tireless fundraising and charitable work for green causes. In 2009, Li Bingbing used her notoriety to establish L.O.V.E, a charitable organization that promotes a responsible attitude towards life and which, as the name suggests, encourages a more caring approach to the planet. L.O.V.E carries the tagline, ‘Responsible Life’, and the related ‘L.O.V.E Green’ initiative promotes a strong environmental agenda. Li Bingbing’s work is recognized around the world and is the first Chinese Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Commenting on her collaboration with Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry Li Bingbing said,
“Many people believe that fashion and environmental protection don’t go together. In reality, more and more people in the industry are integrating environmental protection into their designs, with green initiatives growing in importance as themes and elements. In this context, Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry is already making long strides along the path of environmental protection. Along with my charitable organization, L.O.V.E, I have partnered with Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry to present this Bamboo collection. It is an immense honor and very exciting for me to be able to share these important values within the fashion industry. Through my involvement in environmental campaigning over the past few years, I have come to realize that environmental protection needs to find a way into people’s hearts. They need to be in awe of nature; to appreciate and love nature’s beauty.“

The special Li Bingbing Bamboo timepiece for women has a circular design, emphasized by the striking bezel crafted from light bamboo. The medium-size (35mm) watch has a stainless steel and bamboo bangle that incorporates Gucci’s iconic Horsebit clasp motifs. The dial, in an ivory shade, underscores the creamy color-scheme and is kept simple with a handful of Roman indexes. The Gucci logo and ‘Swiss Made’ stamp appear at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock, respectively. To mark the partnership, the case back is engraved with the words “Gucci and Li Bingbing for Responsible Life”.

Designed to be paired with the timepiece is the beaded bracelet, from Gucci Jewelry’s own Bamboo collection, in a special-edition format. This delicate beaded bracelet is crafted from contrasting wooden bamboo and milky white beads made from the Tagua nut. This adjustable drawstring bracelet is embellished with a sterling silver bead engraved with the Gucci logo and two dangling silver charms, also engraved with the Gucci and Li Bingbing’s Responsible Life logos.

Tagua is a sustainable material also known as ‘vegetable ivory’. Using renewable materials demonstrates Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry’s desire to source materials with a sustainable, provenance, particularly as using Tagua eliminates the need to use ivory products from animals such as elephants, whales or walruses.

Commenting on the collaboration and the new Bamboo items, Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry CEO, Michele Sofisti said: "We are very pleased to further extend our relationship with Li Bingbing through a program that reflects both Gucci's and Ms Li's commitment to preserving the environment. These products reflect an ecological spirit, as they integrate natural Bamboo elements into their design".

To launch this environmental partnership, Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry will host a special evening event on January 17th, 2013, in the historical UNESCO heritage city of Lijiang, Yunnan province, China in presence of Li Bingbing.
