RE: if married in thailand can she claim for half of what you own in uk
I would ask why she is in such a hurry to register it in the UK? What advantage is it for her? Why should she even care as long as it is registered in her home country….
As far as coming from a wealthy Thai family, don’t let that blind you to think that because she is wealthy she has no need to take your assets… I know there are no absolutes but…..whenever I see a wealthy Thai what do I think of??? Corruption!
I would check with a lawyer re this issue. The issue of “Can she get half of what I own?” is a serious question. A lifetime of accumulated property can be lost very quickly if you make the wrong decision. There is a long trail of others who have lost all. The fact that you are asking this question is good however it is too serious to be answered in this forum. The money you invest in a lawyer to get a sound decision will be well worth it when considering what you could lose in the event the marriage went bad.
Good Luck…

As far as I can see from western embassy websites is that they are there more out of economic interest as trading partners. Foreign nationals are treated as a side issue and in many respects are a thorn in their sides.
It's quite the opposite here for Thais who use the full facilities of their embassies to fight for their democratic rights. How Ironic.!!!
A Thai women in the west knows too well her rights wether it's taking out AVO's for no apparent reason which could lead to divorce if registered here and a lucritive settlement.
I am not saying all Thai women would take this course but I know from many I have met here in OZ that they are well informed of not only their rights but the many ways of manipulating the system to best suit their needs. 'THAI TRICKS'
Western men should be careful of who they bring home as their loving spouse in Thailand could easily turn on him when he arrives back with her here in the west.
The Thai community in the west is tightly knit and highly connected. They know all the 'tricks' as they come from a country that is well rehearsed in avoiding and manipulating sistuations concerning laws, in order to gain maximun benifit.
Again I state this is not all Thai people, although the majority would know what I'm talking about.
Unless Thai fully intergrate into western society they enevitably fall back on their communities methods of avoidence of rule of law even here in the west..
Many may debate me on this but I know from experience that Thai communities in the West are not stupid. What they lack in not understanding the western social system is made up for in terms of fully understanding what the laws can offer them and at present it offers them a hell of lot more security and room to manipulate rahter than what is offered to the ex-pats trying to survive in their own country. This is often disreguarded as nearly all Thai I come across, even the ones living here still assume all westerners are rich and that they don't have the same connection to family values as Thais have.
This is where they fall down because in many cases Thais are reluctant even within their new homelands to assimilate with the locals because of the very open nature of westerners, they do'nt seem to handle our non pulsed attitude to their cherished notion of FACE. We are all human and deserve the right as Thais have been given in Australia to our democratic right to 'self determination'. A Thai with PR status is not referred to as an ALIEN.!! They are accepted into main stream society. This is the difference. This all Thai people know. Yet do you think they accept the reverse. LOL
I look forward to hearing from any unbiased Thais to what I have written. I know the 'tricks' of cheating as I've experienced them many times over. It's strange that many Thais view cheating as a viable option in many circumstances.??

When she applies for the visa it will indicate her marital status and you will be included as the husband, for her interests there is a permanent record duly noted by the UK embassy in Thailand.
You might ask her what her concern is and take it from there. She maybe working on a rumor based fear that is groundless.

Good response.
I believe there has to be acceptance that westerners actually do have culture and traditions. This many Thais assume we have'nt and that the totality of our lives is money driven.
Many Thais assume their family values are stronger. Ask any Thai to make the comparison. Yes their sense of community is tight but the nature of close and personal is quite different. Westerners experience personal relationships in a different way to many Asian cultures. Many Asians do'nt expose themselves emotionally even to their own tight knit families. This is where problems with farang/ Thai marriages occur. Taking 'personal resposabilities for the one you have committed to. Once this is achieved a balance can be struck with how one can help the other.
It seems you have a very loving and responsive wife which is admirable as it seems she accepts you and your culture and has learnt that the Thai culture is not the only one in existence on the planet.
Diversity goes a long way in terms of the sharing of knowledge. No one system is best we take a little from each that we find provides us with our needs.
Thais need to learn that western culture has it's own culture and traditions that go back centuries especially in terms of marriage. Families are families no matter where they are in the world. Just because a westerner has a stronger earning capacity does'nt mean he is then the sole bread winner for his extended family in Thailand.
I've seen it many times as you have in upcountry where the farung provides everything while his huge extended familiy sit around getting drunk everyday. I do'nt see this as strong family values more like parasitic. But hey many Thais seem to think that their family values are far more ultraristic than ours, but they fail to look behind the true FACE that exists. What value does FACE have to offer outside of making oneself look better than the other. This is the crux of the problem. CHAI MAI

I think you would be suprised if you asked your wife her views and I'm sure due to your good inflences the reponses would be enlightening.
Some of my Esarn friends here have a particular sort of intuition that really suprises me sometimes. They can be very inspiring and knowledgable as opposed to the usual sterotyping. So a few words from the little Gem as you describe her might shed some light on how a lasting cross cultural relationship can be achieved and sustained.
