"A Visionary
Monarch" is the Bangkok Post's publication to celebrate His Majesty
the King's 72nd birthday.
His
Majesty the King's wisdom is never more important than at a time when
Thailand is struggling to recover from the effects of misguided development
policies that ruthlessly exploit nature, rob the majority poor, and turn
a blind eye to spiritual values.
For over half a century,
the working monarch has visited almost every nook and cranny in the country
and has conceived thousands of development projects to help the underprivileged.
That is how His Majesty has come to know his people and how to liberate
them from their sufferings.
His achievements are
multifarious. But they all are governed by the same goal: social harmony.Teaching
through example, His Majesty has shown us how to achieve this ultimate
goal through the way he works.
His rules of thumb
include: always get first-hand knowledge, learn how nature works, restore
the environment, listen to the people, avoid inter-agency rivalry, strive
for self-sufficiency. Persevere. And be content with moderation.
Without any doubt,
His Majesty's visions for Thailand are deeply rooted in Buddhist philosophies
of self-reliance, moderation and compassion, as well as respect for nature
and the law of interdependency. In short, His Majesty the King has shown
Thailand a new path towards sustainable development that nurtures nature,
empowers the people and fosters spiritual growt.
