Real Bangkok Post news stories adapted for learners of English

Easy English news is a regular feature of the popular learning channel on the Bangkok Post website , (previously readbangkokpost.com)  at http://www.bangkokpost.com/learning.) This is the second collection of stories to be published. Together, they cover the full year of 2009.

The stories are all real, adapted from actual stories from the news section of the Bangkok Post. They have been shortened and reorganised to make them easier to read, but much of the original vocabulary has been retained.

This “easy English” approach has been quite popular with readers. In this edition, the stories are even shorter than the previous edition, few going beyond 350 words. Readers should be able to finish a lesson in 10-15 minutes.

Like the Internet version, each of the stories has been recorded in the mp3 format, so they can be played on a computer or listening devices like the iPod. Unlike the web version, where I do all the reading, however, the CD that accompanies this book features a wide variety of readers from many parts of the English-speaking world.  Thus, you will be able to hear many of the accents commonly heard in Thailand:  American, British, Australian and even New Zealand English, for example.

While the stories are short, there is still a lot of vocabulary to learn – the same type of vocabulary you will see each day in the Bangkok Post. Each lesson has a vocabulary activity to help you understand and remember key words from the story and there are frequent review lessons throughout the book.

For today’s news, of course, go the Bangkok Post website at http://www.bangkokpost.com/learning .
