PM’s wife worried for his safety
The wife of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has conceded in a rare interview with the media that she has been very concerned about her husband’s safety.
‘‘I always try to warn the prime minister to be careful because he is not really worried about his own safety,’’ Pimpen Vejjajiva told reporters at Government House yesterday after chairing a meeting of cabinet ministers’ spouses about birthday celebrations for the King.
‘‘Any time he had to make an upcountry trip, I warned him to be careful,’’ she said when asked about her worries over Mr Abhisit’s safety following a series of unconfirmed reports about plots to assassinate him.
Ms Pimpen rarely gives interviews. This was the first time this year she has agreed to answer questions from the media.
Mr Abhisit likes to spend his limited leisure time at the weekend with his family at his seaside resort house in Hua Hin district of Prachuap Khiri Khan province.
