Kate Middleton finally gets her prince – Prince Williiam that is.
The wait is over
For the woman the British tabloid press has called “waity Katie,” the long wait is over.
Buckingham Palace announced yesterday that Prince William has finally proposed to his long-term girlfriend Kate Middleton and they are to be married next year.
‘‘The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton,’’ Prince Charles’s office said in a statement.
Prince William, 28, the elder son of heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, and Ms Middleton, 28, daughter of self-made entrepreneurs, became engaged while on holiday in Kenya last month.
The couple actually met way back in 2001 when they shared a house at university in Scotland.
According to British newspapers, by 2007 Ms Middleton was so fed up with waiting for Prince William to propose that she broke off the relationship. They soon got back together, however.
Actually, the timing of the proposal was not a great surprise. The engagement had been long predicted and rumours had abounded for months that an announcement was imminent. Prince William had previously said he did not want to get married until he was 28, an age he reached in June.

The engagement ring he presented to Ms Middleton belonged to his late mother Princess Diana. The prince admitted yesterday that he was so worried about losing it that he hid it in his backpack for three weeks.
"I was carrying it around with me in my rucksack for about three weeks," he said.
"I literally would not let it go. Everywhere I went I was keeping hold of it because I knew if this thing disappeared I'd be in a lot of trouble."
