Gadgets for hiking

Hiking can be great exercise, a great way to see nature and a lot of fun at the same time. There are a lot of new gadgets on the market that can make your day out even more enjoyable. Below are a few.

This is a listening exercise. I’ll give you something to think about each product below. Look carefully at the each photo and then listen to my description. Let’s begin with some of the vocabulary you might not know

gadget – a small tool or piece of equipment that does something useful or impressive   อุปกรณ์ขนาดเล็ก, กลไกขนาดเล็ก
hiking -– going for a long walk in the countryside, forest, etc. เดินป่า
waterproof – that does not let water through or that cannot be damaged by water ซึ่งกันน้ำได้
fabric – cloth, especially when it is used for making things such as clothes or curtains
compact – using or filling only a small amount of space; smaller than is usual for things of the same kind ที่ใช้เนื้อที่น้อย, ที่อัดแน่น
base – the bottom part, edge, or surface of something พื้นฐาน, รากฐาน
twist – to turn something around in a circle with your hand หมุนรอบ
mechanism – a set of moving parts in a machine that performs a task กลไก, ตัวจักร
spout – a pipe or tube on a container, that you can pour liquid out through ท่อพ่น
adjust – to change something slightly, especially to make it more correct, effective, or suitable ปรับ
fold – to bend something, especially paper or cloth, so that one part of it lies on the other part, or to be able to be bent in this way พับ
tough – not easily cut, broken, torn, etc  ที่ทนทาน, ที่ใช้ได้นาน
chop – to cut something into pieces with a sharp tool such as a knife สับ, หั่นเป็นชิ้นๆ, ตัดเป็นชิ้น
silicone – a substance formed by a chemical process from silicon and other substances, used for making many different things ยางซิลิโคน
withstand – to be strong enough not to be hurt or damaged by extreme force, extreme conditions, etc. ทนทาน
temperature – a measurement of how hot or how cold a place or object is อุณหภูมิ
boil – to heat a liquid to the point where it forms bubbles and turns to steam or vapour ทำให้เดือด
panel – a flat piece of metal, wood, glass or other material that forms part of something กระดาน
altitude – height above sea level  ความสูงเหนือระดับน้ำทะเล
store – to put and keep things in a special place for use in the future เก็บ
handle – the part of an object, such as a cup, a bag, or a tool that you use to hold it, or carry it; the part of a door, drawer, window, etc. that you use to open it ที่จับ, ที่ถือ
sack – a strong bag for storing and carrying things ถุง กระสอบ
