Photo fun

Let's do something easy, fun and nice for a change. We'll begin by looking and thinking about a photo. Then we'll read the story.

Let's begin by looking at this photo sent to the Bangkok Post from Chiang Mai by reader Thomas F. Tessier. What do you think happened before the photo was taken? How do you think the samlor was feeling? Do you think he was angry?

Facebook suggestions:

From our facebook page http://www.facebook.com/bangkokpostlearning we are getting some interesting vocabulary to describe the photo. One facebook fan says that the samlor driver looks like he needs encouragement -- he looks discouraged, cornered or overwhelmed by the circumstances. You can add your own ideas on our facebook page too. Don't forget to read Mr Tessier's explanation of what really happened, however.

encouragement – words or actions that give someone confidence or hope คำให้กำลังใจ
discouraged – feeling that it is useless to try to do something หมดกำลังใจ, ท้อแท้
cornered – in a difficult situation from which it is hard to escape ซึ่งตกในสถานการณ์ที่ยากลำบาก
overwhelmed – so affected emotionally by something that it is difficult for you to resist or know how to react; confused and not certain what to do งุนงงอย่างที่สุด
circumstances – facts or conditions that affect a situation เหตุการณ์แวดล้อม
