Stamps raise cash for King’s fund

The government has launched a commemorative stamp collection to mark His Majesty the King’s 84th birthday, which fell on Dec 5 last year.

The launch yesterday was presided over by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra at Government House.

Thailand Post will give a boxed stamp collection called ‘‘99 Million Presented to the King’’ to each donor of 1 million baht, to a proposed fund of 99 million baht that is to be presented to His Majesty.

The collection consists of two types of specially made stamps — one of them honouring His Majesty’s 84th birthday and another that is made up of replicas of the country’s first set of stamps to be produced during the King’s reign.

The collection also features a 22-carat gold plate bearing His Majesty’s likeness produced with etching technology.

The stamps and the gold plate are placed in a white ash wooden box which has been imported from the US.

bearing – having writing or a design on top แสดง
likeness – a painting, drawing, etc. of a person, especially one that looks very like them ภาพเหมือน
