Photos in the news

More than 95 percent of the photos our news photographers take are not published in the newspaper. There is not enough space. Here are some very recent photos that have not appeared in the paper – so far at least.

Today’s issue of the Bangkok Post has a very nice photo of His Majesty the King inspecting a room in a hospital building that he will be moving into, but this photo, taken shortly before, was not included. It shows the King paying respects to a statue of the Princess Mother. Photo by Patipat Janthong.

Here is another photo by Patipat Janthong, a wonderful, long-distance view of the site for the funeral of Her Royal Highness Princess Bejaratana Rajasuda.

Yesterday, local Korean pop fans gathered outside CentralWorld to try to get a glimpse of their favourite performers who were there to hold a press conference for the Korean Wave concert which takes place today at Rajamangala stadium. It looks like these fans had one particular star in mind. Korean wave photos by Phrakrit Juntawong.

I don’t know, but I would guess this Korean star might be the one exciting the Thai fans.

Actually, the Thai fans could have gone to nearby Ratchaprasong intersection to see some homegrown superstars. The Bangkok Post published a photo of these policewomen this morning, but I like this one better. The women police officers were there to raise awareness about safe driving during the upcoming Songkran festival. Photo by Somchai Poomlard.

Speaking of superstars, Thai boxer “Buakaw” Sombat Banchamek is definitely one. His press conference announcing his return to the ring drew huge numbers of reporters and photographers. Our story in Bangkok Post learning has already drawn almost 3000 readers as well. http://bit.ly/HhljqF  Photo by Patipat Janthong.
