The winds are blowing the wrong way this year for some reason, bringing rain instead of cool, dry air, a situation that is likely to continue for some time.

This is not the typical weather map for this time of year. Winds from the south are blowing in rain and it looks like the dry, cool weather that normally comes from the north will be delayed for quite some time. Graphic from weather underground.

Where is the cool season, anyway?
Normally, at this time of the year, our Bangkok weather comes from China in the form of high pressure systems. That means clear skies plus dry, refreshingly cool air.
That obviously hasn't happened yet this year, and weather forecasters say we are unlikely to see "winter" any time soon.
Instead of high pressure from the north, we are being affected by low pressure fronts from the southern part of the country, resulting in severe rainfall, a senior official at Thai Meteorological Department told the Bangkok Post yesterday.
This is quite unlike typical weather patterns in the past.
The unusually heavy rain "is not a result of El Nino or La Nina", the official said, adding that it will probably continue well into the December, with especially strong downpours during the month.
"The [rain] levels will gradually reduce but will still remain above the seasonal average ... over the past 30 years," she added.
Meanwhile, low pressure systems have been dominating in the Central, South and Gulf of Thailand regions, causing rainstorms.
Heavy rainfall yesterday caused a flash flood in Chumphon's Pathiu district, affecting 49 villages. No injuries were reported.
The governor of Chumphon, Pirasak Hinmuangkao, has ordered a 24-hour alert and called for careful monitoring of the situation.
It has been raining along the southeastern coast since Monday and fishing boats have remained near the shore.
The area from Prachuap Khiri Khan to Nakhon Si Thammarat has also been warned of heavy rainfall and possible flash floods.
Wanchai Udomchai, director of the Southeastern Meteorological Centre, advised fishermen to keep their fishing boats ashore as waves in the Gulf of Thailand could be as high as two metres.
