Eagle snatching child video fools the world

The video looks like one any amateur might post to YouTube of an exciting incident that he/she unexpectedly captured while filming.

It begins with a view of a large golden eagle soaring across the sky, high above a park in Montreal Canada. It flaps its wings for a short time and begins to make a slow, gliding turn. Suddenly it swoops down over a flat grassy area of the park, slowing its descent with its huge open wings. It picks something off the ground, carries it off for a few metres and then drops it hard onto the ground below.

The camera then gets jerky as the person filming runs forward. Soon we see that the something was a small child, shaken but unhurt.

It's all quite shocking once the viewer realises what happened. Is nowhere safe?

The video quickly went viral, getting millions of views in its first day. As of this morning, views had passed 20 million.

By now, however, many are viewing the video not out of shock, but out of curiosity. News has come out that the video is a hoax, part of a school project at a Montreal 3D animation and digital design school.

According to a blog entry posted online by the school, four students were behind the hoax.

"The child and the eagle were created using 3D animation by the students and then dropped into real footage," it said.

The video took the students 400 hours to create.

The school grades the project according to the amount of views each video receives. Videos that exceed 100,000 views get a perfect score.

20 million views must rate an A+++++.
