Brutal crime re-enacted

You can understand why the woman on the floor looked decidedly uncomfortable.

Sitting over her was Pairoj Nanthatanti, a man who had confessed to having savagedly murdered his girlfriend in the same Nonthaburi apartment.

Fortunately, Mr Pairoj was handcuffed and under police control. The woman was playing the role of the victim during the traditional re-enactment of violent crimes that are carried out in full view of the media.

Yesterday, crime reporters even had a chance to ask the suspect questions.

According to police, Mr Pairoj said that he was in a relationship with the victim, Archaranee Rakchue, 22, for about one year.

During that time she was involved with several other men, which triggered a fight between them, he said.

Mr Pairoj said he was drunk and the victim insulted him and his mother so he lost his temper and killed her, stabbing and burning her multiple times. He also killed her cat.

After the murder, he fled to Ratchaburi province and then contacted Adisak Kruep-am, 61 to help him get out of the country.

Police tracked them down near the Thai-Myanmar border in Mae Ai district in the far north of Chiang Mai where Mr Pairoj was planning to sneak out of the country disguised as a monk.

Police said the suspect has seven outstanding warrants for his arrest, including assault, carrying a gun without a licence and attempted bribery.

He is also wanted for his part in a 21 million baht scam when he was a Krung Thai bank employee in 2009.
