Children's Day accident

Children's Day was fun for most, but not for Chutima Pleanwong and her two young sons.

They were injured at an event that you would think would be among the safest in the country, the traditional Government House Children's Day activities.

The accident occurred at the so-called "Asean Community zone" about 3.20pm on Saturday when a large billboard was tipped over by strong winds, injuring Chutima, 36  and her two sons, Anucha Khomsing seven and Jessadaporn, 10.

Chutima was knocked unconscious, while Anucha  suffered a head injury requiring three stitches. His brother Jessadaporn suffered a back injury and bruising to his body. All three were taken to nearby Mission Hospital.

Chutima was found to have a fractured vertebrae and has complained about a stomach ache, Nattapan Wilaiwan, a nurse at the hospital, said.

Witnesses said strong winds blew the billboard over and on to the family, who were eating at the time. Event organiser Right Man Co agreed to compensate the family, while Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra sent a gift.
