Golf fans will recognise many of the competitors in the just-completed Malaysian Open.
There was World number 3 Luke Donald. He missed the cut. Three times Major winner Padraig Harrington was there as well. He finished four strokes off the lead. Then there was Ryder Cup star Edoardo Molinari whose final day 67 left him one stroke short of the winner.
And who was that winner? He was Kiradech Aphibarnrat from Thailand. The big-hitting Thai kept his nerve through a two-hour lightning delay with only four holes to play to win his first Asian/European Tour victory. The event was co-sanctioned by the Asian and European Tours.
Thunderstorms plagued the tournament throughout, forcing it to be shortened to 54 holes.
Kiradech had rounds of 65, 68 and 70 in the tournament, for a total of 203.
Kiradech, who earned $458 330 (13.4 million baht) for his win, said: "I just wanted to play as best as I could and not think about the others. This is a tremendous day for me."
Meanwhile Molinari, who finished second, said he failed to put pressure on Kiradech.
"I felt that if I had birdied the last hole (which Kiradech bogied) I might have won outright because it would have put a lot of pressure (on Kiradech)," he said.
