Channel 5 issued a red-faced apology after it mistakenly showed a photo of Meryl Streep, the actress who played Margaret Thatcher in the 2011 movie The Iron Lady, during a news bulletin on the former British prime minister's death.

It would be difficult for most people in my generation (some time in the 20th century) to mistake a photo of former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher who died on Monday.
Known as the Iron Lady, she had that unmistakable look of a very determined, very tough woman who did not compromise easily.
Ms Thatcher has been out of power since 1990, however, so she is probably best known to the younger generation from the 2011 semibiographical film The Iron lady which came out in 2011.
Thus, we can understand and perhaps forgive the young worker at Channel 5 who mistakenly chose a photo of Iron Lady star Meryl Streep to accompany a news item on the death of the former prime minister.
The channel aired the item for about two minutes on its morning news bulletin yesterday.
Netizens were not so forgiving, however, and quickly criticised the channel for allowing the gaffe to go on air.
This prompted the channel to issue an apology on a Facebook page called Khao Ha Na Nueng (Front Page News on Channel 5). It said it was sorry for its mistake which caused misunderstandings among the public and promised to improve its coverage and be more careful in future.
Channel 5 was not the only embarrassed media outlet, however. On the same day, a Taiwanese news station was also forced to apologise after it aired footage of Queen Elizabeth II while reporting on the death of Thatcher.
