“Nong Oey” dies
Grieving father Ekachai Thongphu left a short simple message on Nong Oey’s Facebook page yesterday morning: "About 8.50am, April 17, 2013, may my daughter Nong Oey sleep in peace".
“Nong Oey” was three-year-old Manassnan Thongphu who was left in a hot school van outside her kindergarten in Samut Prakan two weeks ago for six hours before being discovered.
Manassanan was treated at Bangkok Hospital after falling into a coma with swelling of the brain caused by long exposure to the heat in the parked, closed van that earlier took her and other pupils to the preschool.
Two teachers, Daorong Srisumang, 37, and Santiphap Wanchai, 42, who were responsible for the van that day, caring for the children and driving, earlier reported to police to acknowledge charges of recklessness at Bang Pu station.
Manassanan was among the 13 students in the van overseen by Ms Daorong. The girl was picked up from her house about 7.30am on Wednesday, and was found deeply distressed in the same van about six hours later.
Both teachers, along with school directors Anong Kiriwong, 77, and Yuwares Kiriwong, 42, will now be summoned to acknowledge charges of recklessness causing death, police said .
Mr Ekachai said he would let the police handle the case, but would ask all schools to pay more attention to their pupils' safety. He plans to transfer Manassanan's elder brother, who is registered at the same school, to a different school.
