Tiger Woods (R) of the USA and Sergio Garcia of Spain stand on the 11th tee during round three of The Players Championship at on Saturday in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
Not the best of friends
Bitter rivals Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia played together on Saturday in the third round of the Players Championship. During a rain delay Garcia complained to reporters that a move by Woods to remove a club from his bag just as Garcia was hitting a shot sparked distracting crowd noise, causing him to hit the ball poorly.
Later, in separate interviews, both players talked about the incident. They don't sound angry, but if you listen closely, it is clear that don't like each other much.
Tiger: The marshals...they told me he already hit, so I pulled a club and was getting ready to play my shot and then I hear his comments afterward and (it's) not really surprising that he's complaining about something.
Reporter: Did you talk to him about it or did he talk to you?
Tiger: We don't do a lot of talking.
Reporter: Did you know that he said that before you went back out (after a rain delay)?
Reporter: No I didn't.
Sergio: We'll, it's very simple. You I think that, you know, it happens to me when I'm in Spain, you know, you...obviously it happens to him everywhere he goes. He gets a lot of people following and I think you have to be very careful because there's another guy playing and, you know, sometimes you have to pay attention to what's going on because, you know, if the other guy's hitting and you do something when you're in a crowd, the crowd is going to respond and, you know, it's going to affect the other player.
Reporter: He just told us that it not surprise...it not surprising to hear you complaining about something. That's his response. How do you feel about hearing that.
Sergio: That's fine. You know, at least I'm true to myself. You know. I know what I'm doing, you know, and he can do whatever he wants.
