Two election candidates filed separate complaints with police Sunday after their election posters were vandalised, as were many others around the country.

Chalong Khanlert, a candidate for the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP), filed a complaint with police after several of his campaign posters put up in central Kalasin were vandalised.

The posters feature him and Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who is the party's prime ministerial candidate for the March 24 general election.

He said the pictures of Gen Prayut on the posters were the target of vandalism with holes cut by sharp objects or by rubber bullets.

He believed such behaviour spoiled the election climate

Democrat Somchai Srisutthiyakorn had his poster vandalised in the Samut Sakhon constituency where he is running.

Police said an initial check found that six campaign posters featuring Mr Chalong and Gen Prayut in Kalasin municipality were vandalised.

Police were checking footage from surveillance cameras and looking for clues from witnesses to track down the perpetrators.

In Phayao a Democrat Party election candidate Sunday filed a complaint with the Chiang Kham district chief after his campaign poster was vandalised.

The pictures of him and Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva on the poster were damaged by a sharp object.
