SAMUT PRAKAN: Ruam Katanyu Foundation will reinstate the rescue volunteer whose "night with a corpse" last week caused a viral online sensation.

Ekaphan Bunluerit, personnel manager of the foundation, said that its executives found 55-year-old volunteer, Noppadol Seethongkham, blameless in an incident where he had to watch over the corpse of a suicide victim for six hours while police fought a jurisdictional battle.

The inquiry at the Ruam Katanyu headquarters in Samut Prakan took only an hour to conclude that Mr Noppadol was innocent.

The online post last week, including a photo of Mr Noppadol, was a distortion by a third-party internet poster, Mr Ekaphan said.

"We do not know the objective of the one who posted it. But the incident caused negative criticism, a bad image of the police and an impact on our organisation.  We will find out who distorted information and then ask police to take action," Mr Ekaphan said.

As Mr Noppadol was innocent, he would be reinstated, and will resume work "in a few days", said the manager.

Mr Noppadol said he had been working to collect bodies at night for more than 10 years and the transfer to the head office forced him to adjust his sleeping hours. He thanked everyone who had given him moral support.
