Chakorn Rujirachakorn

Think about what you like to do best. Suppose you could do it every day and earn money at the same.
That would be cool, wouldn’t it?

Well, that is exactly what happened to Chakorn Rujirachakorn. He has liked moulding clay since he was a kid and now he has made a career out of it.

"I've loved moulding clay since I was six," Chakorn said. "I made robots, racing cars and my favourite Japanese cartoons like Saint Seiya."

Back then, there was no "How To" book on clay moulding. Chakorn just watched cartoon characters on TV and tried to do it in his own way.

Later at secondary school he learned about Thai sculpture and he often represented his school in various sculpture contests.

He wasn’t a great sculptor though and he rarely won the top prizes.

"Back then I didn't have much creativity,” Chakorn explains. “Without that, you can never create a good work," he said.

After finishing school, Chakorn signed for Advertisement and Design Study at Suan Dusit Rajabhat University. He didn’t use his clay-moulding skills, however, until his final project at the end of his course.

For his project, he produced a book on the Aesop fable The Shepherd's Boy. All the illustrations were done with clay. The book was very good and his teacher gave him an “A”.

Today, at 33, Chakorn still produces books using clay illustrations of fairy tale characters, but he does so as the owner of his own company. His company is called Punfun Creation and it produces books for kids, telling famous stories like Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, The Ugly Duckling, Alice in Wonderland, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Hansel and Gretel.
