Häagen-Dazs ice cream products worth 12 million baht were destroyed in Samut Prakan on Monday although their samples were not found to be contaminated.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said on Tuesday that several European countries had recalled Häagen-Dazs ice cream from sale after an alert that batches with expiry dates of between March 16 and April 23, 2023, were contaminated with a chemical linked to a cancer.

Following the FDA inspection, those products had not been imported into Thailand.

However, Jagota Brothers Trading Co, a local importer of the ice cream brand owned by United States manufacturer General Mills, had recalled other batches that were imported for sale and destroyed them at an industrial facility in Samut Prakan province.

A total of 27,645 items worth 12 million were destroyed. The FDA and the Samut Prakan provincial public health office witnessed the burning of the products.
