Chao Phraya bridge to open in 2024

Construction of the country's widest river bridge, over the Chao Phraya in Bangkok, is expected to be completed next year.
The eight-lane bridge, parallel to Rama IX Bridge, is 2-kilometre-long cable-stayed structure.
The 6.6-billion-baht bridge will relieve traffic congestion on the adjacent Rama IX Bridge, which is 35 years old and in need of repair.
Although the bridge will be completed this month, it will not be officially opened until early next year.
The Expressway Authority of Thailand (Exat) is seeking a royally sponsored name for the bridge to honour His Majesty the King.
The new bridge will be 80 metres in height at its highest point and will have eight lanes. Rama IX Bridge has only six.
After the full launch of the new bridge, Exat will suspend the use of Rama IX Bridge, in 2025, for maintenance set to last a year.
Rama IX Bridge has an average volume of 104,000 vehicles a day.
