Sexual remark censored

Censure debate watchers will immediately recognise Prasit Chaisrisa, a Pheu Thai MP for Surin province, as one of his party's chief defenders.

He raises his hand regularly to object against accusations made by the opposition Democrats, sometimes in rather "colourful" language.

Yesterday, his speech was a bit too colourful, even for his fellow party members.

Mr Prasit was involved in a heated exchange with Democrat Party MP Rangsima Rodrassami after she accused the Ground Water Resources Department of irregularities and mishandling the flood relief projects.

During her speech, Ms Rangsima gave information about alleged corrupt practices and on one occasion spoke about a dream, prompting Mr Prasit to rise in protest.

Mr Prasit said Ms Rangsima could not cite her dream when accusing the government of malpractice: "What would Ms Rangsima say if I said that in my dream I slept with her?" he said.

Mr Prasit's remark drew protests from several female members of the opposition.

Democrat MP for Trang Sathit Wongnongtoey asked that Mr Prasit withdraw his statement.

House Deputy Speaker Charoen Chankomol, who was in the chair at the time, told Mr Prasit to retract his remark. He agreed.

That didn't satisfy Mr Sathit who later posted on his Twitter page that Mr Charoen had agreed to have the House ethics committee investigate Mr Prasit's behaviour.

If found guilty, Mr Prasit could be reprimanded and a petition might be sent to the Office of the Ombudsman to seek his removal, Mr Sathit said.

He also posted a message saying that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra should weigh in on the matter.
