For many viewers, the best things about the US Superbowl are the commercials – which this year featured Bob Dylan, David Beckham uncovered, and an offended ostrich to name a few. Take a look.

Superbowl Adverts: Star of the show?
The US Superbowl is the championship game for the National (American) Football League. It features the two top teams and it is the most watched sports event of the year on TV.
Many TV viewers are not big football fans, however. Many are more interested in the big half-time show (see here http://bit.ly/1eSOavZ), but many others, believe it or not, watch to see the commercials.
That is because all the commercials are new and they are the best and often the funniest that the companies running them can produce. And, they are expensive – US$4 million (about 130 million baht) for just 30 seconds, plus another $2 million or so to produce.
Here are three examples:
The first is the easiest, since there is no speaking at all. It features (international) football star David Beckham. The advertisement is for men's underwear and it begins when David comes for a photo shoot, but the photographer is not quite ready for him. Watch what happens when he steps outside to get some air.
The second commercial is for the popular snack food Doritos. The idea is easy. Who ate all the Doritos in the break room? The ostrich, right?
"I am upset. Guys. Someone has eaten all the Doritos in the break room while, mind you, making an incredible mess. Now, I've narrowed it down to you two."
"Well, obviously it was the ostrich, right?"
The third commercial is "heavier" in content than the first two and very likely much more expensive. It features the legendary Bob Dylan and its purpose is to get Americans buy American-made cars, specifically Chrysler cars, again. The auto industry grew up in American and for decades the United States was the world leader. But then other countries started making high quality cars and even Americans started buying them in large numbers. So, why buy American? Bob Dylan tells you:
Is there anything more American than America?
Cause you can't import original
You can't fake true cool
You can't duplicate legacy
Because what Detroit created was a first
And became an inspiration to the rest of the world
Yeah, Detroit made cars. And cars made America.
Making the best, making the finest, takes conviction
And you can't import the heart and soul of every man and woman working on the line.
You can search the world over for the finer things, but you won't find a match for the American road and the creatures that live on it.
Because we believe in the zoom, and the roar, and the thrust.
And when it's made here, it's made with the one thing you can't import form anywhere else. American Pride.
So let Germany brew your beer.
Let Switzerland make your watch,
Let Asia assemble your phone.
We will build your car.
