PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN - His Majesty the King granted an audience to members of the royal family and to civil servants during a ceremony to commemorate the 64th anniversary of Coronation Day on Monday.

The ceremony was held at Rajapracha Samakhom Pavilion inside Klai Kangwon Palace in Hua Hin district, 130 kilometres south-west of Bangkok, on Monday morning.

Hua Hin was a sea of yellow for today's Coronation Day festivities. THITI WANNAMONTHA

Crowds of well-wishers, most wearing yellow, occupied areas on the footpaths along Phetkasem Road and repeatedly chanted "long live the King" as the royal motorcade made its way from Piemsuk Palace to the pavilion about 10.15am.

The event was broadcast live on television nationwide.

The King arrived at the pavilion at 10.30am, but he did not deliver his traditional address on this occasion. The ceremony ended about 11am.

Her Majesty the Queen, 81, was not present during the ceremony.

Many well-wisher spent the night at the side of Phetkasem Highway to ensure they had a good view. THITI WANNAMONTHA

Key national figures, such as caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Privy Council president Prem Tinsulanonda, Democrat Party chief adviser Chuan Leekpai and MR Pridiyathorn Devakula, attended Monday's ceremony.

The King, 86, was crowned on May 5, 1950 at the Royal Palace in Bangkok.
